Patrick Wilson Gives Update on Aquaman 2 – Pitches Vera Farmiga to Join Film!

Much like you can’t have Thor without his brother Loki, it turns out Aquaman’s half-brother Orm won’t be far behind when the sequel rolls into production. Orm and Nite Owl actor Patrick Wilson confirmed as much while promoting his latest release, Midway.

Talking with The Hollywood Reporter, Aquaman 2 and the Ocean Master came up toward the end of the sit down. Wilson stated he is “slightly briefed [on Orm-related matters],” and teased he will be back for a second round.

While he is slightly briefed, he also indicated he wants to know more.

“Of course, I want to know everything, but I also have a great respect for him and the process to know that I’m OK staying out of it until it’s late in the game. Sometimes, there’s so much information that I don’t ask because I don’t want to know, and I don’t want him to go, “I can’t tell you that yet.””

Wilson admitted that he and director James Wan, a frequent collaborator of his, are shooting ideas back and forth although the actor couldn’t get very specific:

“I just throw a little dart here and there. I’ll say, ‘So, what about this?’ and [James Wan will] say, ‘Well, this is what I’m thinking.'”

He also revealed Wan will go “even further” than before with the next film:

“I can tell you that even his concepts for Aquaman 2 are pushing it even further.”

However, he didn’t want to give anything away especially on how Orm fits in.

“I have a few ideas of where Orm fits in, but I’m not gonna talk about them.”

In Aquaman, Orm sat on the throne of Atlantis and through war and deception sought to conquer all kingdoms of the seas and declare himself Ocean Master. Thwarted by Arthur and their mother Atlanna (Nicole Kidman), Orm encouraged Aquaman to kill him. However, Arthur would refuse. He would eventually be taken prisoner by Vulko after being defeated by Arthur and reuniting with his mother.

Wilson did joke that he has been pitching for Godzilla: King of the Monsters actress Vera Farmiga to join the sequel:

“Right!? I pitch her all the time. I remember seeing Cate Blanchett in Thor and feeling, “Man, I would love a female villain …” I think Vera would be great in any role, really. She’d probably be like, “C’mon, get out of here, you guys.” (Laughs.)”

Back in March, he stated his belief Orm won’t be much of a threat in the second part and will more than likely give way to another villain. Said Wilson:

“He’s not gonna be a main villain in another movie. I don’t think Orm ends up in Belle Reve like he does in the New 52. I assume they’re gonna keep him in some kind of jail below the surface.”

Even if Orm occupies a cell in an Atlantean dungeon, he lived and may still have a few tricks up his sleeve, as well as ambitions to take back his crown.

Aquaman 2 is set for release on December 16, 2022. Jason Momoa previously teased production might be delayed due to his protests of the installation of a telescope on Mauna Kea in Hawaii.
