Exclusive: Disney’s Box Office Expectations for Frozen 2 Revealed

Disney’s box office expectations for Frozen 2, from directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, have been revealed.

My source tells me that Disney expects the film to have an opening weekend of $125 million and go on to earn $450 million in total at the domestic box office.

The expectation fits in line with Box Office Pro’s long range forecast from September. They predicted the film would have an opening weekend between $115 million and $145 million.

The original Frozen film had an opening weekend box office gross of $243,390. However, it only opened in one theater on November 22, 2013. In it’s second weekend it would gross $67.3 million and it would go on to make $400.7 million at the domestic box office. It would earn $1.2 billion total at the worldwide box office.

Not only would the film do exceptionally well at the worldwide box office, but it performed extraordinary in Blu-ray and DVD sales. The Numbers reports the film has sold $403.5 million in home sales.

Frozen 2 stars Kristen Bell as Anna, Idina Menzel as Elsa, Jonathan Groff as Kristoff, Evan Rachel Wood as Iduna, Sterling K. Brown as Mattias, Josh Gad as Olaf, and Alfred Molina as Agnarr.

Here’s the official description for the film:

“Why was Elsa born with magical powers? The answer is calling her and threatening her kingdom. Together with Anna, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven, she’ll set out on a dangerous but remarkable journey. In “Frozen,” Elsa feared her powers were too much for the world. In “Frozen 2,” she must hope they are enough.”

The film will be 104 minutes in length and early showings will begin on Thursday, November 22, 2019 at 6:00 PM local time.

What do you make of these expectations? Do you have any predictions on how much Frozen 2 will make? Do you plan on seeing Frozen 2?
