Report: Legion and Fargo Creator Noah Hawley to Write and Direct New Star Trek Film

FX’s Legion and Fargo creator Noah Hawley will reportedly write and direct a new Star Trek film.
The report comes from Deadline who note “Paramount Pictures is in final talks with Noah Hawley to write and direct a Star Trek film.”
They indicate the film will continue in the Kelvin timeline with Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, and Zoe Saldana returning to their posts on the U.S.S. Enterprise.

It’s unclear if Chris Hemsworth will return to reprise his role as George Kirk. He and Chris Pine reportedly exited a previously planned Star Trek film back in 2018 over a dispute with contract negotiations.
Not only were there reports that Pine and Hemsworth exited the project, but it also noted that Parmount was attempting to keep the film on a strict budget following the box office performance of Star Trek: Beyond which only grossed $343 million worldwide.
While reports in 2018 indicated Hemsworth left the project over a contract dispute, in May 2019 he told Variety that he left because of issues with the script, “I didn’t feel like we landed on a reason to revisit that yet.” He added, “I didn’t want to be underwhelmed by what I was going to bring to the table.”
The film will be produced by Hawley’s 26 Keys production alongside J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot.
There is no production or release date for this fourth Star Trek film in the Kelvin timeline. It’s more than likely the continuing voyages of the Enterprise crew are still a few years away.

According to the report, this movie will apparently have no bearing on Quentin Tarantino’s Star Trek film that is also in development. That film reportedly already has a screenplay by The Revenant’s Mark L. Smith.
Hawley had previously indicated he was doing a Doctor Doom film back at San Diego Comic Con in 2017 before Disney merged with Fox. In fact, he revealed in 2018 he had completed a Doctor Doom script.
However, the project appeared to be in limbo after he was asked about it at SXSW back in March. When asked about the film he questioned, “Should I still be working on it?”
The film would reportedly be a geopolitical thriller rather than a normal superhero film. Doctor Doom would create a dome over his fictional homeland of Latveria and invite a female journalist to act as his voice to the world. There has not been any movement on the Doctor Doom front since then.
