Stargate Producer Joseph Mallozzi Reveals Plans for “Stargate Tweet Storm” For New Series

Stargate SG-1 producer Joseph Mallozzi revealed he’s in the “final planning stages for the [an] upcoming Stargate tweet storm.” The tweet storm will be to push for a new Stargate series.

Mallozzi wrote on his blog:

“The High Council and I are in the final planning stages for the upcoming Stargate tweet storm. We just have a few details to nail down (hopefully by tomorrow) after which we will be posting the exact date and time of the event.  We’ll have more than a few surprises in store, so stay tuned!…”

He had previously revealed he was working on a Stargate tweet storm earlier this month  “in support of a new Stargate series” and revealed it would take place on December 6th.

Mallozzi explains:

“It’s high time for one GIANT final tweet storm in support of a new Stargate series.  Given the way the current television landscape is developing, the rise of the streamers, the quest for marquee programming, the revisiting of established franchises, and, chiefest of all, the enduring passion of Stargate fans – the time is NOW.”

He then details the massive success of the Stargate franchise:

“22 years since Stargate: SG-1 premiered.

9 years since Stargate: Universe aired its final episode.

In between, 14 years, 17 seasons, 354 episodes, and an ever-growing army of fans.”

Mallozzi then reveals he believes now is the time for MGM to green light a new Stargate show, and he explains what his vision of this new show would be.

“Fandom has waited long enough.  You’ve all been incredibly patient.  But it’s time for MGM to green light a new show.  One that ALL of Stargate fandom can get behind.  Not a reboot or a reimagining, but an in-canon series that builds on seventeen seasons of television history while, at the same time, offering a jumping on point for new viewers who may have never watched a single episode.  There’s room for all fans, newbies and veterans alike.”

Mallozzi reveals the tweet storm will take place on Friday, December 6th.

Friday, December 6th is the date.”

He encourages fans to “get the word out.”

“Circle it.  Clear your schedule.  Get the word out.  And rally the troops.  Because this time, Stargate fandom will NOT be denied.”

This planned tweet storm comes a little over a month after MGM shut down their Stargate Command streaming service, and announced their move to YouTube.

MGM Shuts Down Stargate Command – Joseph Mallozzi Reacts

As Mallozzi points out the Stargate franchise is rather storied. It started out as a feature film in 1994 from Roland Emmerich and was quickly spun into a wildly successful TV series in Stargate SG-1 that starred Richard Dean Anderson, Michael Shanks, Amanda Tapping, Christopher Judge, and Don S. Davis.

SG-1 would run from 1997 to 2007. The series would be spun-off in Stargate Atlantis which also had a lengthy run from 2004 to 2009.

A third TV series would be launched in 2009 titled Stargate Universe. It would run to 2011.

The franchise also includes a web series titled Stargate Origins and an animated series, Stargate Infinity.

There is also a Stargate: Atlantis comic book series that is published by American Mythology.

Needless to say Stargate is a strong franchise with multiple TV series and a strong storytelling core.

The shows focus on Stargates, which allow individuals to travel and explore the galaxy. However, those journeys aren’t always peaceful. The teams encounter a number of different threats, but they also discover new technologies, as well as the history of the universe.

Are you ready for a new Stargate series? Do you plan on participating in this tweet storm to get a new series?
