Star Wars Fans Roast Newest The Rise of Skywalker Clip With Flying Stormstroopers

Star Wars fans roasted J.J. Abrams, Lucasfilm, and the Star Wars franchise after releasing the latest clip from The Rise of Skywalker, which shows flying First Order Stormtroopers equipped with jetpacks.

Director J.J. Abrams released the clip during Good Morning America, which sees Stormtroopers equipped with jetpacks catapulted into the air as they pursue Rey, Finn, Poe Dameron, Chewbacca, C-3PO, and BB-8.

Following the clip, Abrams stated:

“It’s incredible how much, and I’m of course only grateful that people care enough to look into this stuff and want it, but it’s amazing how much people read into the small details. It’s the key to doing a movie like this which is that you want to make sure the details have meaning and matter because you know they are going to be scrutinized like crazy.”

However, it appears he didn’t pay too much attention to the details in this clip as he has Finn questioning, “They fly now?”

Fans were quick to point out that jetpacks in Star Wars are nothing new and in fact First Order Stormtroopers have been equipped with them.

Having Stormtroopers that can fly should not be out of the ordinary as C-3PO, Finn, and Poe make it out to be.

As numerous fans stated, jetpacks have been in the Star Wars universe for quite a long time.

Boba Fett is seen using one in Return of the Jedi.

His father Jango Fett also deployed one in Attack of the Clones.

In Star Wars #21 Sergeant Kreel leads an elite squad of Stormtroopers known as Scar Troopers that answer directly to Darth Vader. His squad deploys jetpacks.

In Poe Dameron #1, First Order jetpack troopers are clearly seen in the events leading up to The Force Awakens when Poe Dameron is leading the Black Squadron and seeking out Luke Skywalker on the orders of General Leia Organa.

Jet packs, Stormtroopers using them, and especially First Order Stormtroopers using them should not be anything that surprises C-3PO, Finn, or Poe Dameron. However, that’s what this clip shows us, and it’s all for a bad laugh.

What do you make of this new Star Wars clip? Does it get you excited for The Rise of Skywalker, or does it just portend an impending disaster?
