J.J. Abrams All But Confirms Ahsoka Tano Will Appear in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

Director J.J. Abrams all but confirmed that Ahsoka Tano will appear in the upcoming Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

In an interview with Sora News 24, Abrams asked interviewer P.K. who was his favorite character.

P.K. responded, “Sorry for picking someone who only appears in the animated stuff [Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels], but I really like her positive, determined personality.”

Abrams then stated, “Hmmm, Ahsoka, huh? Well then you’ll probably want to watch closely during The Rise of Skywalker.”

When P.K. responded with surprised bewilderment, Abrams added, “Hahaha, well, enjoy the movie!”

A rumor surfaced back in October that Ahsoka would appear in the film.

That rumor detailed Ahsoka would appear in the film as voice only giving Rey encouragement as she battles the Emperor. Described by leaker Jedi Paxis, the scene appears to be extremely similar to Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

The scene occurs after Palpatine defeats Kylo Ren and begins pontificating on how Rey will join him. Much like Harry Potter, Rey will reach out to the Force and she will receive encouragement in the form of the voices of Ahsoka Tano, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Leia.

The main difference between the scenes appears to be that Ahsoka, Obi-Wan, and Leia won’t actually materialize.

YouTuber Doomcock and his anonymous source appears to confirm the initial rumor from Jedi Paxis.

Doomcock states, “There is a moment in Rise of Skywalker when Rey is confronting Palpatine and suddenly the voices of all the Jedi of the past surround Rey encouraging her and urging her on to conquer the risen Palpatine.”

He continues, “In that cacophony of Force ghost voices from the past the voice of Ahsoka can be heard urging Rey on.”

As Doomcock notes in the video, if this rumor turns out to be true, it heavily indicates that Ahsoka is dead.

Doomcock questions, “So did they just kill Ahsoka off screen? Did they toss Ahsoka away with casual aplomb like a used Kleenex tissue for the sake of name-dropping something they think will make fans say, ‘Oh yea Ahsoka. Yea I remember her. This must be Star Wars.'”

Ahsoka Tano’s fate was left ambiguous at the end of the Star Wars Rebels animated series.

She was seemingly left for dead after fighting Darth Vader on Malachor. However, Ezra Bridger would rescue her using the world between worlds.

They would be confronted by Emperor Palpatine, who attempted to access the world between worlds after Ezra opened it.

During their encounter with Palpatine the two would end up separated. Ezra would ask Ahsoka, “When you get back come and find me.” Ahsoka responds, “I will. I promise.”

After escaping Palpatine, Ahsoka returns to Malachor.

Following the Battle of Endor and the seeming defeat of Palpatine and the Empire, Ahsoka arrives on Lothal.

She teams up with Sabine, who set out to find Ezra and bring him home to Lothal.

Needless to say Ahsoka’s story was far from over at the end of Rebels.

In fact, Ahsoka’s race, the Togruta, have quite lengthy lifespans. The Force Unleashed Campaign Guide, which is considered part of the Legends canon details that Togruta are considered old between the ages of 75-94.

Ahsoka is only 40 at the end of Star Wars Rebels and the events of The Force Awakens are set only 30 years after Return of the Jedi.

This would mean Ahsoka would still be middle age for a Togruta by the time of the sequels.

What do you make of J.J. Abrams’ comments? Do you think Ahsoka Tano will appear in The Rise of Skywalker? And if so, how?
