Rumor: Disney Wants Hugh Jackman To Return to Wolverine in Deadpool Team-Up Movie

A new rumor indicates that Disney wants Hugh Jackman to return to the role of Wolverine for a Deadpool team-up film.

The rumor comes from Mikey Sutton and was originally published via The Lords of the Long Box YouTube channel.

Host TVO detailed the rumor stating:

“Insiders tell Mikey that the possibility of Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds on screen as Wolverine and Deadpool is no laughing matter. Disney wants to offer Jackman truck loads of cash to return as Logan one more time to face Deadpool in an R-rated buddy picture kind of like a 48 hours of mutants.”

TVO notes no deal has been made.

“It’s just in the discussion stage at this point. There has been no deal set with Jackman yet.”

However he does provide some tiny plot details on what the movie could entail:

“But it would be a hilarious send-off to the Fox Marvel Universe wherein Deadpool time travels to the past when Jackman’s Logan was still alive.”

Sutton would post the entire scoop in his Facebook group:

“They’ve been joking about it for years, but insiders tell me that the possibility of Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds onscreen as Wolverine and Deadpool is no laughing matter. Disney wants to offer Jackman truckloads of cash to return as Logan one more time to face Deadpool in an R-rated buddy picture, kind of a 48 Hours with mutants. It’s just in the discussion stage at this point, and there has been no deal set with Jackman yet. It would be a hilarious sendoff to the Fox Marvel universe wherein Deadpool time travels to the past when Jackman’s Logan was still alive. Will Jackman do it? No doubt this would be the biggest hit of his career if he says yes.”

While this is certainly still a rumor, there are indications Disney wants this to happen.

Disney teased Jackman’s Wolverine joining Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther in a Marvel Cinematic Universe sizzle reel at CinemaCon.

The sizzle reel, which has not been made public featured Jackman’s Wolverine asking, “What is this place?” It then cut to a scene of Black Panther making you feel like Wolverine is asking the King of Wakanda.

Back in January of 2018, Sebastian Stan indicated Jackman might be returning to the role of Wolverine.

At Ace Comic Con, he stated, “Recently, I happened to be sitting next to Hugh Jackman. I didn’t know what other awkward thing I could talk about but to be like, ‘Am I going to see you soon?’ I don’t know. But he said a couple of things to me and I’ll just leave it at that. Otherwise, I feel like I’m going to get into trouble with somebody.

However, in December 2017, Jackman seemingly closed the door on returning to Wolverine.

While promoting the Greatest Showman, Jackman told Collider:

“It’s interesting because for the whole 17 years I kept thinking that would be so great, like I would love to see, particularly, Iron Man and the Hulk and Wolverine together. And every time I saw an Avengers movie I could just see Wolverine in the middle of all of them like punching them all on the head. But it was like, “Oh well, that’s not gonna happen,” and it was interesting just when I first saw that headline — it was just the possibility of it and who knows what’s gonna happen, obviously — I was like, “Hang on!” But I think, unfortunately, the ship has sailed for me, but for someone else I would like to see Wolverine in there.”

He had previously indicated in February 2017 that he would be open to returning to the role especially if Wolverine could face off against the Hulk.

“If that was on the table when I made my decision, it certainly would have made me pause. That’s for sure. Because I always love the idea of him within that dynamic, with the Hulk obviously, with Iron Man but there’s a lot of smarter people with MBAs who can’t figure that out [laughter]. You never know.”

What do you make of this rumor? Do you think Disney wants Jackman to return as Wolverine? Do you think Jackman will return?
