Morbius Actor Tyrese Gibson Teases Film Set in MCU

Morbius actor Tyrese Gibson recently teased that the film is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a lead-up Instagram post to the film’s first trailer.

Tyrese took to Instagram writing, “M O R B I U S • T R A I L E R • 1 H O U R AWAY!!!! Evil is amongst us!!!!”

However, it was the hashtags that he used that teased the film’s inclusion into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He used #DarkClouds #MARVEL #MCU #SONY and #Crossover.

Not only did Tyrese tease it on Instagram, but Charlamagne tha God revealed on his Comic Kings podcast back in October that Tyrese had told him the film would be set in the MCU.

Charlamagne tha God explains, “Tyrese actually told me. I was speaking to him a couple of weeks ago. He actually told me that they are doing the Morbius, but they have all deals to do three other movies.”

He added, “He did say to me that it would all be in the MCU.”

When pressed on the authenticity of the scoop, Charlemagne responded, “I don’t think he would have any reason to lie.”

He added, “Yeah, but he did say they are doing the Morbius movie and they are going into the MCU.”

A Not-Too-Familiar Character for a Not-Too-Familiar Anti-Hero

Gibson will play Agent Simon Stroud, ex-CIA and mercenary. In the comics, Stroud is often hunting Michael Morbius. He has also gone after man-wolf, J. Jonah Jameson’s son turned into a human-wolf hybrid.

His early life in the CIA saw him teaming up with Black Widow aka Natasha Romanoff and with Spider-Man. Despite his encounter with the fantastical and the superhuman, he is by all accounts a normal human.

The trailer shows Gibson, as Stroud, wearing a device on his right arm. It isn’t clear what function it serves. And the comic book history of the character doesn’t reveal what that might be.

The Possiblity or Not of A Crossover

Sony currently has all the rights to Spider-Man and characters within that comic-book franchise. That includes Venom, Carnage, Morbius, and the villains. The MCU only has limited access to just Spider-Man through contracts that have to be re-negotiated every now and then.

And that contract was recently negotiated with Marvel Studios boss commenting on it saying:

“I am thrilled that Spidey’s journey in the MCU will continue, and I and all of us at Marvel Studios are very excited that we get to keep working on it. Spider-Man is a powerful icon and hero whose story crosses all ages and audiences around the globe. He also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what surprises the future might hold.”

What do you make of Tyrese Gibson’s tease that Morbius is part of the MCU and the information from Charlemagne tha God indicating the film is part of the MCU? Do you want the new Sony Spider-Verse films to be part of the MCU?
