Doctor Who’s Latest Episode “Fugitive of the Judoon” Further Fuels Rumors That The Doctor’s Original Gender Will Be Revealed to Be Female

Doctor Who’s latest episode “Fugitive of the Judoon” further fuels rumors and speculation that the Doctor’s original gender will be retconned to be female.

YouTuber Gary Buechler previously reported on the rumor explaining, “It looks like that there might be multiple sets of regenerations.”

Rumor: Doctor Who Season 12 to Reveal Doctor’s Original Gender

He added:

“I’ve been told that they’ve been playing around the idea or they’re going to go ahead with the idea of multiple regenerations. And something I predicted over a year ago, the Doctor will originally have been a woman.”

Buechler continued:

“But according to my source they will not give a specific number on multiple sets of regenerations. And they won’t specifically come out and say he was a woman first. It will be more like alluding to it, keeping it vague with a little wink.”

Following the most recent episode of Doctor Who, “Fugitive of the Judoon,” Buehcler believes this rumor is coming to fruition.

Buechler explains, “The Fugitive of the Judoon was the first female of color Doctor played by Jo Martin. The first female Doctor played by Jodie Whittaker scans the first female of color played by Jo Martin with her sonic screwdriver. The first female of color Doctor played by Jo Martin does not recognize the sonic screwdriver.”

He adds, “The first female Doctor played by Jodie Whittaker has no memory of the first female of color Doctor played by Jo Martin and vice versa.”

Buechler continues, “They are also in an older Tardis hinting that the first female of color Doctor played by Jo Martin precedes the first female Doctor played by Jodie Whittaker. Meaning there is a good possibility that this rumor might be true. That the first female of color Doctor played by Jo Martin might be the original Doctor.”

He also points to Doctor Who show runner Chris Chibnall’s statements confirming that Jo Martin is the real deal Doctor following the premiere of the episode.

Chibnall stated, “The thing thing to say is – she is definitively the Doctor.” He continued, “There’s not a sort of parallel universe going on, there’s no tricks.”

Chibnall added, “Jo Martin is the Doctor, that’s why we gave her the credit at the end with all new Doctors have the first time you see them. John Hurt got that credit.”

Buechler then states, “They are going to go for it all. They are going to retcon it. They are going to make her the original Doctor. Again that’s just my opinion, but it’s looking like that is the case. But if that isn’t the case, I will freely admit that I was wrong. I have no problem with saying that. And I will be relieved.”

Buechler believes the whole idea of hinting or teasing that Jo Martin’s Doctor could be the original Doctor is a “marketing gimmick.” He explains, “This is again, just a marketing gimmick, to help grab some headlines, to get some interest in your show.”

He also believes that the fact they had to resort this to gimmick proves “that the shine of the first female Doctor played by Jodie Whittaker has been wearing off for quite some time. And the ratings prove that. We got the consolidated ratings from the last episode of Doctor Who “Nikola Tesla’s Night of Terror” and the consolidated ratings are in the crapper.”

What do you make of Buechler’s theory? Do you think Jo Martin’s Doctor will be retconned into the first Doctor?
