The campaign was launched by Alita fans, who describe themselves as The Alita Army, back in January. The original goal of the campaign was for the banner to be seen by film studios to give them “faith that an Alita sequel will be successful.”

The original GoFundMe for the campaign was $1,810. However, the campaign raised $8,400. The excess funds are expected to be donated to Open Bionics.
