Netflix Releases Altered Carbon Season 2 Trailer Starring Anthony Mackie

Netflix released their Altered Carbon Season 2 trailer starring Anthony Mackie.

Take a look.

The trailer starts right off introducing us to Takeshi Kovacs’ new sleeve indicating it’s for military use only and has rapid healing and enhanced reaction time among other bells and whistles. It also reminds viewers that Kovacs is still searching for his long-lost lover, Quellcrist Falconer. And it appears he will find her.

Showrunner Alison Schapker explained the premise of the show to Polygon, “Kovacs is on a journey every season that does have a beginning and a middle and an end, but there’s a cumulative feeling to viewing his adventures.”

Schapker adds, “I think the idea that in every season, it’s a new Kovacs, and a new sleeve, on a new planet, and a new mystery, feels to us like the spine of a loose anthology. But, one that has a rewarding component for watching his adventures.”

For those who haven’t seen the first season or read the book by Richard K. Morgan, the show introduces the abilities for humans to store their subconscious on devices called stacks. Those stacks can then be transferred to different sleeves or bodies. It allows for humans to essentially become immortal as long as their stack is not destroyed.

While the trailer introduces us to Kovac’s new sleeve there’s a huge twist towards the end as the original Takeshi Kovacs or at least a sleeve that looks just like him is activated and appears to be sent to hunt down the Kovacs in the Anthony Mackie sleeve.

Schapker also described the show as both a “love story” and a “ghost story.”

“We knew it was a love story, and we knew it was a ghost story. We new Kovacs wanted to find Quell. He had been searching for her for centuries. That really brings up the question of time. Time alters all things.”

Schapker discusses that the season will explore a number of questions surrounding Kovacs finally finding Falconer.

“What would it mean to love somebody for so long and then find them? And would they be the person in your memory, and would they be the person you carried around? How have you changed and how have they changed? And how has the world changed and what would that be like? So you start from a very open-ended, pure places, imaginatively, and go from there.”

Altered Carbon Season 2 arrives on February 27, 2020. The series stars Anthony Mackie as Kovacs, Lela Loren as Danica Harlan, Simone Missick as Trepp, James Saito as Tanseda Hideki, and Dina Shihabi as DIG 301.
