Rumor: The Falcon And The Winter Soldier To Introduce Omega Red

A new rumor indicates that the upcoming Disney Plus show The Falcon and The Winter Soldier could introduce Omega Red.

The rumor comes from 4Chan so, as with other rumors we suggest you take this one with a grain of salt.

The poster claims to have seen an episode from the show. The leaker details that Sam and Bucky are attempting to “track down a crime syndicate called The Alchemists.” In order to do so, they take Helmut Zemo as a hostage because he has “vital information.”

That information appears to lead them to Madripoor where they meet with Batroc the Leaper and Omega Red. However, the leaker also details that there could be other characters because the scene where they meet with Omega Red and Batroc “felt like the cantina scene but in the MCU.”

The cantina scene they are most likely referring to is from the original Star Wars film when Luke and Obi-Wan Kenobi arrive at Mos Eisley and recruit Han Solo to their cause.

The leaker also indicated that there is some flirtation between Bucky Barnes and Agent 13. They detailed that Sam gives Bucky a hard time about it, but Bucky tells him, “Steve dated her like 70 years ago.”

They also reiterated previous rumors that Sam Wilson is not allowed to be Captain America due to the Sokovia Accords and his choice to side with Captain America in Captain America: Civil War. However, Sam does trust U.S. Agent to take over the mantle. And U.S. Agent wants to do a good job, he just doesn’t realize he’s part of a bigger plan.

Like previous rumors, they also detailed that William Hurt’s Thaddeus Ross will be in the show.

Finally, the leaker details that Zemo escapes at the end of the episode in speedboat. He also details Sam Wilson gets shot.

The Fictional Land of Madripoor

While I did caution to take this rumor with a grain of salt, there does appear to be some legitimacy to it. The series is expected to take place in the fictional location of Madripoor.

A set photo showed the symbol of Madripoor in what looks to be a hotel courtyard. You can see the symbol in the middle of the photo mounted on the wall next to the fountain.

Obviously this set photo does not confirm they are in Madripoor, but it at the very least confirms its existence in the MCU.

The location in the comics is historically the grounds for some of the more notable evil organizations that have been pitted against the X-Men. Tangentially to the X-Men, Captain America in one of his many missions met up with Wolverine here during World War II.

The island was at one point discovered to be on the back of a giant dragon. The dragon awakens through a ritual performed by the Hand.

There is a large wealth gap on the island. It contains a Hightown with a population of extremely wealthy denizens whose only gain is through corruption. On the outskirts is a part of the city extremely impoverished, desperately poor, and crime-ridden.

The government does not allow extradition of its inhabitants for any crime. And it has turned a blind eye to many of the criminals who take refuge on the island nation.

The island has served as home to a time displaced X-Men in X-Men Blue #1 by Cullen Bunn and Jorge Molina. Magneto builds a variation of the X-Mansion for the team.

In recent comics, the island has been one of the focal points for events in the Marauders storyline. It essentially becomes one island nation with a claim to independence, Krakoa, versus another island nation with much of the same claims, which is Madripoor.

The Russian in Asia?

Serial killer Arkady Gregorivich Rossovich undergoes a supersoldier serum treatment much like Captain America, but only on the Soviet Union side of things. The Carbonadium tendrils the Soviet government outfits him with are capable of siphoning life from whoever gets caught in their coils. However, the metal slowly poisons Rossovich. So the act of draining life from his victims also keeps him alive.

Recently Omega Red concept art for Deadpool 2 surfaced online. And it looks like Whiplash from Iron Man 2, except for some pale skin and different colored hair. NFL player Dakota Shepley was playing the mutant villain and even had a mock makeup for the character. He never made the final cut of the film.

Omega Red has shown up in recent comics in Wolverine #1 by Benjamin Percy and Adam Kubert. In it, Red is like any mutant, seeking refuge on the new Krakoa. Wolverine has his doubts about accepting the villain amongst the island’s residents, due to their tangles in the past. Spoilers for those who haven’t read the book yet, but Omega Red is a sleeper agent for Dracula.

In the comics, he is mostly a foe to Wolverine. So his appearance outside of any mutant introduction, notwithstanding before any introduction to Wolverine, sounds precarious. His character history also doesn’t involve him in Madripoor.

However, Omega Red was experimented on in the Soviet Union super soldier program. Rumors indicate that Carl Lumbly could be playing a black Captain America in Isaiah Bradley, who was part of brutal experiments to create more American super soldiers. It’s not out of the realm of possibility that another super soldier character would be featured in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

In fact, Captain America: Civil War introduced us to just how extensive the super soldier program was in the Soviet Union. I don’t think it’s too far of a stretch to imagine that Zemo would uncover more of the Russian program and attempt to use it for his own goals.
