Latest New Mutants TV Spot Confirms Film Will Be PG-13

The latest New Mutants TV spot confirms the film will be rated PG-13.

At the end of the TV spot you can see that it has a PG-13 Rating.

The Motion Picture Association of America’s Film Ratings website explains New Mutants has a PG-13 rating “for violent content, some disturbing/bloody images, some strong language, thematic elements and suggestive material.”

The film is being released under Disney’s Twentieth Century Studios banner, which was previously 20th Century Fox.

The film is being released on April 3, 2020, but it’s been a long way in coming.

The film’s release date was changed a number of times. It was originally slated to release two years ago on April 13, 2018. It would then be pushed back to February 22, 2019. And then again to August 2, 2019.

There were even rumors that Disney might shelve the film entirely after they acquired 20th Century Fox, or at the very least release it directly to a streaming platform.

It might have been better off to release it direct to streaming. The film is currently only tracking to gross $17 million in its opening weekend at the box office. Box Office Pro also projects it will only earn $37 million total for the entirety of its run.

As previously noted the film is slated to release on April 3rd. The week before, Disney’s Mulan arrives in theaters and will likely have significant carryover as will A Quiet Place Part II, that releases on March 20th. Then on April 10th is the newest James Bond film, No Time To Die. Not to mention the film is also going up against Sony’s Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway.

It’s surrounded by competition and will more than likely require good word of mouth for it to find its legs.

What do you make of New Mutants getting a PG-13 Rating? Would you rather have seen an R-Rating to follow-up on the success of Logan and DC’s Joker?
