Space Jam 2 Leaks Show The Mask, Joker, and Pennywise

It sounds fake – and some of us online thought it was – but Space Jam 2 will go further than its predecessor. The film dives deeper into the Warner Bros. movie library and uses characters outside Looney Tunes.

More comical – and scary – properties will feature, including Pennywise from IT, a Joker, and (for the first time in decades) Jim Carrey’s The Mask.

Video and screenshots from a wrap party were shared on Instagram by DCUVERSE. In the captions, he writes “It’s Real, It’s Freaking Real,” adding:

“Didn’t Believe Me? Told Y’all That This Isn’t fake. You Can Repost If You Want, But Just Remember To Give Credit.”

He then notes Voldemort and the Wicked Witch from Wizard of Oz can also be seen so the Tune Squad won’t just be ‘toons this time:

“there you have it, we even have voldemort in this footage. The rumor is the sequel will expand so its not just the Loony Tunes, but other WB properties. So we are looking at DC, Wizard of Oz, Harry Potter potentially, etc etc.”

In the second post, DCUVERSE is excited over the idea of The Mask, Joker, and Pennywise in the same movie. He made reference to Jared Leto who hasn’t been seen as Mr. J since Suicide Squad:

“NO WAY, NO F***ING WAY, THERE’S NO WAY WE’RE GETTING THE JOKER, PENNYWISE AND THE F***ING MASK IN #SPACEJAM2. GUESS LETO’S NOT GETTING RECASTED.”

Then he shared what he might do if Jim Carrey isn’t The Mask again:

“IF JIM CARREY IS NOT RETURNING AS THE MASK, I’M LITERALLY GONNA KILL MYSELF!!!! CAN’T BELIEVE NO ONE HAS POSTED THIS EXCEPT ME.”

One commenter disputed the idea DCUVERSE was the only one to share these images. User wierd_o wrote:

“Those are my screenshots that I took from the wrap up party video for the film that I posted on my twitter a couple days ago. Yet you are saying “no one has posted this but me”. Look, I have no problem with you or anyone else posting them, I mean it’s not like I own the images. But at least have the common deceny to not act like you’re the first one to post these in general. Because the actual reality is that these images are now sprouting up everywhere and someone may have posted them before you. Heck, it wasn’t even my 1st time posting the screenshots. I originally posted them back in September on my twitter. I don’t why NOW they’re big news.”

The actors in the makeup probably aren’t Leto, Carrey, or even Bill Skarsgard in the case of Pennywise (their price possibly too high).

Jim Carrey hasn’t made the scene in the green since 1994. Released by New Line Cinema (WarnerMedia’s “House That Freddy Built”), The Mask was based on a Dark Horse Comic and was one of the highest-grossing comic book movies at that point.

Carrey almost signed on for a sequel but nothing came of it. Audiences were instead subjected to the awful Son of the Mask starring Jamie Kennedy in 2005.

Redditor recently claimed characters from Clockwork Orange, The Matrix, and Mad Max: Fury Road will also be featured. “This is true. Mad Max characters, Clockwork Orange, Joker, Pennywise, Penguin, Wicked Witch of West, Agent Smith are all in it,” he claims.

It sounds like we’re getting a type of pan-Warner Bros. universe chock full of guest appearances by figures – live and animated – from the past and present similar to the LEGO movies or Who Framed Roger Rabbit?. But they didn’t forget about Bugs Bunny or Lola as a poster from last year shows.

Like the tweet says, we have to wait until summer 2021 for Space Jam 2. Directed by Terence Nance (An Oversimplification of Her Beauty), the film stars LeBron James who co-produces with Ryan Coogler.

It is a sequel to the 1996 film starring Michael Jordan, Bill Murray, and Wayne Knight that grossed $230 million worldwide and made a hit out of R. Kelly’s “I Believe I Can Fly.”
