Artist Stanley “Artgerm” Lau Shows Off Kakegurui Pinups Of Yumeko Jabami and Mary Saotome

DC Comics cover artist Stanley “Artgerm” Lau recently showed off pinups of Kakegurui’s Yumeko Jabami and Mary Saotome.

For those unfamiliar with Kakegurui it was originaly a manga series written by Homura Kawamoto with art by Tōru Naomura that began serialization in Square Enix’s Gangan Joker back in 2014.

The series was adapted into an anime with the first season airing in Japan in 2017. The anime is currently licensed by Netflix to stream outside of Japan.

The takes place at Hyakkaou Private Academy, an elite school with children from Japan’s wealthiest and most influential people. However, unlike normal schools, Hyakkaou Private Academy ranks their students based on their monetary contributions to the student council.

This fuels a complex gambling extracurricular gambling system that ends up determining students lives even after they graduate. Those on top achieve fame and popularity, while those who end up losing and going into debt become house pets and are subject to the whims of the student body.

In fact these house pets even receive collars that are placed around their necks to identify them. If students are unable to clear their debt they receive a “Life Schedule” that will dictate their future.

Yumeko Jabami is a second year transfer student to Hyakkaou Private Academy, who quickly jumps into the school’s gambling culture after being challenged by Mary Saotome.

Yumeko embraces the culture despite figuring out she is playing in rigged matches against her classmates. In fact, she quite enjoys it.

While she might end up losing initially in the rigged matches, she is usually able to figure out how the different games work and turn the tables on her fellow classmates who are rigging the games.

As for Yumeko’s appearance, she is a pale-skinned girl with black hair that extends to her waist and bangs that cover her forehead. She has brown eyes that sometimes glow red when she becomes excited.

Her outfit is the school uniform of Hyakkaou Private Academy. She wears a red blazer with black trim. Underneath the blazer she wears a white button-up shirt. She also sports a black pleated skirt and black stockings. She wears brown shoes.

As for Mary Saotome, she has long blonde hair usually tied up in two ponytails with black ribbons. Along with her ponytails she has lengthy bangs that come down over her eyes at some points.

Saotome has dark yellow eyes.

Like Yumeko, Mary also wears the Hyakkaou Private Academy school uniform.
