DC Comics Reveals Harley Quinn’s New Costume in Suicide Squad as Book Gets Canceled

Harley Quinn is known for undergoing changes in her look over the last several years. Now, she is getting another upgrade for 2020.
Artist Bruno Redondo shared the redesign that will be debuting in Suicide Squad #11 on Twitter, which you can see below.

It combines elements of old and new from Harley’s past. Her small eyemask and black lipstick are back, along with the highlights in her pigtails she’s had since The New 52.
The red-and-black color scheme of her jester outfit also returns, but now the costume looks leather or vinyl-based. Redondo complements things with a button-up jacket with coattails and a mallet slung over her shoulder.
Redondo posted he consulted DC Associate Editor Andrea Shea who permitted him to share the art. He tagged the Suicide Squad’s current writer, Tom Taylor, and teased the mask won’t appear in the issue.
Harley’s new look is sleek and may live on but it couldn’t come at a worse time. Taylor and Redondo’s Suicide Squad ends with issue #11. I guess it’s a case of better late than never then.
Layoffs are hitting WarnerMedia and its concomitant companies, leaving DC no choice but to downsize. It came out that 25% of the line are not breaking even. Publisher Jim Lee revealed a spate of other books is going away too.
“It’s about more punch for the pound, so to speak, and increasing the margins of the books that we are doing,” Lee said to The Hollywood Reporter.
Lee pledged a commitment to diversity, regardless, and that’s one of the things injected into Taylor’s run on the Squad. He introduced a transnational group of young rebels – The Revolutionaries – that includes the Aussie Aboriginal warrior Thylacine.
Harley’s look was updated earlier this year in live-action for Birds of Prey. The biggest changes were a jacket made of streamers and yellow overalls.
Margot Robbie returns to the red and black colors for James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad in 2021, albeit as a dress. Her iconic New 52 design, as well as her tights from Batman: The Animated Series, were held onto for the DC Universe cartoon.
Suicide Squad #11 – in which the task force clashes with the Justice League – goes on sale in late November.
