Rumor: Michael Fassbender Is A Frontrunner For Hawkman In Black Adam And Reverse-Flash In The Flash

Former X-Men star Michael Fassbender is rumored as a favorite in the running for both Hawkman in Black Adam alongside Dwayne Johnson, and Reverse-Flash, against Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen in The Flash.

But, he reportedly faces some stiff competition. According to The Cultured Nerd, Fassbender is one of a bevy of contenders for both parts – corresponding with a recently leaked shortlist.

Hawkman

There “are several contenders for” Carter Hall/Hawkman, says TCN. Ryan Reynolds is the one “coveted for the role” though his schedule might get in the way.

Raining on this prospect, the Deadpool star’s name being in the running is probably a joke, the product of Twitter banter between him and Johnson.

TCN also says Charlie Hunnam, almost-Batman Armie Hammer, and Godzilla vs. Kong’s Alexander Skarsgard are still on the shortlist, as we reported.

They mention Michael B. Jordan as well, who is a newer name added to the mix. Jordan has been brought up for a Superman movie too and he even pitched Warner Bros. on an idea for the Man of Steel.

His idea could have something to do with Calvin Ellis from Earth-2 whom Jordan expressed interest in playing. Jordan previously played Johnny Storm in Fant4stic and Killmonger in Black Panther.

Casting him as Carter Hall would diverge from the comics and demonstrates Warner broadened their criteria for Hawkman beyond the usual.

TCN editor-in-chief Taylor Murphy talked about the Hawkman casting speculation on his Lightcast live stream (watch below):

Reverse-Flash

Fassbender is also on the not-so-short shortlist for Reverse-Flash, aka Eobard Thawne, the speedster from the future and sworn enemy of Barry Allen.

The list, which they claim is accurate, comprises Charlie Hunnam and Alexander Skarsgard again, James Norton (McMafia), and Billy Magnussen (Velvet Buzzsaw).

We previously reported those same names. Taylor Murphy discussed Flash casting as well on Lightcast (timestamp above).

TCN shared there’s concern Ezra Miller, “a relatively lesser-known actor in the titular role,” won’t sell the movie on his own so he needs a bigger name to costar. His recent scandal is another matter but, like we covered, shouldn’t affect his status at WB.

Ezra Miller Flash

Matthew McConaughey is one more name under consideration for Thawne. Either he or Fassbender could do the trick to secure star power, but the concern with that is overinflated.

The Flash is already a stacked ensemble with the returns of Michael Keaton and, as of this week, Ben Affleck as their respective Batmen.

Further announcements relating to Black Adam and The Flash that may confirm the above, and so much more, are expected at DC FanDome on Saturday.
