New Rumor Claims Lucasfilm And Disney Developing A Mandalorian Theatrical Film With A Star Wars Rebels Villain

A brand new rumor claims that Lucasfilm and Disney are developing a theatrical film based on The Mandalorian.

The rumor comes from Mikey Sutton at GeekosityMag.com.

Sutton writes, “It’s no surprise that a Mandalorian theatrical movie is being discussed at Disney.”

He goes on to add that the film will feature characters introduced in Star Wars Rebels. In fact, Sutton details that the main villain of the film will be Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Sutton explains, “According to a source, the film will include characters introduced on the Rebels animated show and the Big Bad is going to be Grand Admiral Thrawn.”

This latest rumors follows up on a separate scoop Sutton revealed back in May. In that scoop, Sutton detailed that Thrawn would make his live-action debut.

He wrote in his Facebook group, “I’ve held onto this for months now, and I’m tired of waiting for additional details to put this out. Thrawn will make his live-action debut, I am told, possibly in the next two years.”

Sutton isn’t the only scooper indicating that Star Wars Rebels could show up in The Mandalorian or The Mandalorian related spinoffs.

Back in May Slash Film reported that the voice of Mandalorian warrior Bo-Katan Kryze in Star Wars Rebels and Star Wars: The Clone Wars Katee Sackhoff would reprise her role in The Mandalorian.

Slash Film claimed that Sackhoff “filmed her role back in February before Hollywood production shut down due to the global coronavirus pandemic.”

Back in March, Slash Film would also report that actress Rosario Dawson would play a live-action version of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels character Ahsoka Tano.

They stated, “We have exclusively learned that Rosario Dawson will appear in The Mandalorian season 2 and are excited to report that she will be playing a fan-favorite character previously only seen in the Star Wars animated productions.”

Ahsoka

“Dawson will be playing a live-action version of Ahsoka Tano, Anakin Skywalker’s Jedi padawan apprentice who appeared in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels,” they added.

Disney has made it clear they wanted to expand the world of The Mandalorian. Former Disney CEO Bob Iger stated on an investor’s call back in February, “The priority in the next few years is television with The Mandalorian Season 2 coming in October and then more coming from The Mandalorian thereafter, including the possibility of infusing it with more characters and the possibility of taking those characters in their own direction in terms of series.”

Iger reiterated, “So the priority for Star Wars in the short-term is going to be, I’ll call it television for Disney+ and then we will have more to say about development of theatrical soon after that.”

The Mandalorian

He then stated, “We are confident that the studio is going to continue to be a strong driver of operating income for the company, both on the movie front, but also as a great supplier of product both original and secondary market for Disney+ and for Hulu, by the way.”

The Mandalorian Season 2 will arrive on Disney Plus on October 30, 2020.
