Jamie Foxx Confirms Electro Rumors, Teases Spider-Verse And Multiple Spider-Men

Jamie Foxxx Electro

Actor Jamie Foxx has taken to his Instagram where he confirmed the rumors surrounding his return to Electro. But not only does he appear to have confirmed the rumors, but he’s also teasing what we might expect for the future of Spider-Man including multiple Spider-Men!

The rumor surrounding Foxx and his return to Electro, the lightning-powered villain he played in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opposite Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man, were started by The Hollywood Reporter’s Borys Kit.

Kit claimed Foxx was “in final talks to reprise the role for the latest Spider-Man installment, starring Tom Holland and being made by Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures.

The Hollywood Reporter and Kit had no other details on what Electro’s role might be in the film.

Foxx would seemingly confirm the rumors on Instagram. He first posted a photo of actor Keith Jefferson congratulating him on the role for the untitled third Spider-Man film.

He would then outright confirm the rumors in a now-deleted post to his Instagram proper. Foxx wrote, “Tell Spidey let’s run it back!…super excited to be part of the new marvel Spider-Man new installment… can’t wait for ya’ll to check the new one.”

He added, “And I won’t be blue in this one!! But a thousand percent badass!!!”

Spider-Verse

However, he didn’t just confirm his role, he fueled rumors that Spider-Man 3 will involve multiple Spider-Men and could see the return of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker and Spider-Man.

Not only that, but the art he shared also appears to include Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’s Miles Morales.

Foxx’s post would align with a separate rumor from scooper Mikey Sutton, who claimed that the Sony produced Spider-Man spin-off films like Venom, Morbius, and the rumored Spider-Woman film from Olivia Wilde will be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Sutton explained, “The Spider-Man spin-offs will connect with Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man pictures, which are set in the MCU.”

“So, technically, they are in the MCU but they will not affect any of the MCU story arcs unless Feige is producing,” he added.

Jared Leto Morbius

This isn’t the first time this connection rumor has made the rounds.

DR Movie News reported back in January that “the Sony Spider-Verse events & plot points will only be referenced in Spider-Man films & NOT in any other Marvel Cinematic Universe films.”

They added, “Spider-Man MCU films will affect the Sony films, but Sony films won’t affect the MCU.”

Not only does Foxx’s post align with this recent information from Sutton and DR Movie News, but it could also lend credence to a previous scoop from Sutton.

Back on July 4th, Sutton scooped that Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man would appear in a Spider-Verse film. Not only did he indicate that Maguire’s Spider-Man would appear, but that he would be killed off and replaced by Miles Morales.

The image Foxx shares shows only three Spider-Men, and none of them look like Maguire’s character. In fact, from left to right it looks like Tom Holland’s version, Andrew Garfield’s, and Shameik Moore’s animated Miles Morales.

Sinister Six

Foxx’s return as Electro also resparks rumors that Kevin Feige is interested in finally bringing the Sinister Six to the big screen. In fact, it appears he might have been setting up their arrival since Spider-Man: Homecoming with Michael Keaton’s Vuture.

The original Sinister Six team in the comics consisted of Vulture, Electro, Kraven the Hunter, Mysterio, Sandman, Doctor Octopus.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has given us two of these characters already with Vulture and Mysterio with Foxx being the third in Electro.

A Kraven the Hunter film has been in the works for quite a bit and a recent report in August from Deadline indicated Sony was moving forward with the film and in fact had found director in Triple Frontier’s J.C. Chandor.

The only two characters that would be missing from the original lineup are Sandman and Doctor Octopus. And given the fact the rumors indicate Tobey Maguire could be returning is it really that far of a stretch to think they might also bring back Thomas Haden Church to play Sandman and Alfred Molina’s fantastic Doctor Octopus.

Not to mention the MCU now has original Spider-Man director Sam Raimi directing Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

What do you think of Jamie Foxx returning to the role of Electro in the MCU?  Is this perhaps an opening up of the Spider-Verse/Multiverse that we are supposedly getting teases in during WandaVision, and culminating in the Doctor Strange sequel film?
