Artist Imagines Titans’ Anna Diop And The Mandalorian’s Sasha Banks As The X-Men’s Storm

The Imaginative Hobbyist recently shared mock ups portraying Titans’ Starfire actress Anna Diop and The Mandalorian’s Sasha Banks as famous X-Men leader and member Storm.

Storm was first created by Len Wein and Dave Cockrum and first appeared in Giant-Size X-Men #1 back in 1975.

In her first appearance it is revealed that Storm’s real name is Ororo and that she is the goddess of the storm for a village in Kenya.

After answering the prayers of the villagers to bring rain to the village and end a drought, Storm is recruited by Professor Charles Xavier to leave Kenya and join him.

He persuades her by offering her the world “and people who may fear you, hate you — but people who need you nonetheless.” Xavier adds, “The world I offer is not beautiful — but it is real — far more real than the fantasy you’re living now.”

He then reveals that she is not a goddess, but rather a mutant and being a mutant comes with responsibilities. Xavier’s persuasion works and Storm agrees to join him.

After accepting Xavier’s offer, Storm returns with him to Westchester where she joins Nightcrawler, Sunfire, Wolverine, Colossus, Thunderbird, and Banshee.

The group is then tasked by Professor Xavier and Cyclops to rescue Xavier’s original X-Men team on the island of Krakoa.

After arriving on the planet, Storm is paired with Colossus and the two have to fend for themselves against an avalanche of rocks that is determined to take them out. However, Colossues uproots a tree and bats it aside securing a path to a temple on the island.

As they approach the temple, they meet up with the other teams and discover the original X-Men team inside. They are able to rescue them, but discover to their horror that the actual island is a mutant!

During the battle against Krakoa, Storm is able to use her own abilities to restore the magnetic powers of Lorna Dane aka Polaris. In fact, she doesn’t just restore her abilities she pushes them to the limit and exceeds them.

While Storm pushes Polaris’ powers past their limits, her summoning of a tempest also empowers Krakoa as the rain that accompanies the tempest physically and mentally strengthens the mutant island.

Fortunately, Polaris is able to strike the island before it can unleash a devastating attack on the X-Men. She sends the living island into outer space. The mission is a success and the new X-Men begin their return trip to Westchester with the X-Men they rescued from Krakoa.

Storm’s story would not end there, it would just be getting started.

In Uncanny X-Men #102, her backstory would be detailed by long-time X-Men writer Chris Claremont. In that story, the New X-Men face off against the Unstoppable Juggernaut and Storm is unable to act due to fear despite the rest of her team being man-handled by the infamous X-Men foe.

As she hears the cries of her teammates, Storm recalls her very early days when she was just 6 months old in Harlem. She remembers her father David Munroe who was a photojournalist and her mother an African princess named N’Dare.

Then just five years later, Storm loses her mother during the Suez Crisis when a French plane is shot down in Cairo and crashes into their home as they attempted to flee to the American embassy.

Storm would survive the plane crash, but would find herself without any parents. After living in the gutters of Cairo she would eventually be taken in by the Achmed El Gibar, who taught her to survive on the street and trained her to become “the finest beggar/sneak-thief in all Cairo.”

By the time she turned 12, Ororo followed a calling to travel south. She eventually arrived in the Serengati Plain and called it home and served as the storm goddess for the villagers in Kenya before Charles Xavier recruited her to the X-Men.

Her escapades with the X-Men would eventually see her become the leader of the group in Uncanny X-Men #139. Not only would she become the X-Men’s leader, but she would also foster a special bond with Kitty Pryde.

Storm would also become romantically involved with Black Panther. A number of stories would set up their romance from a young age. In one story, Storm rescues Black Panther from a racist at the age of 12. In another version it is Black Panther who rescues Storm.

Eventually the two marry and Storm becomes the Queen of Wakanda.

However, as it is with many comic book marriages, it would not last.

She would rejoin the X-Men and eventually the Avengers, but chooses to side with the X-Men in the Avengers vs. X-Men series. She even faces off against Black Panther when he sides with the Avengers.

However, she eventually works with the Avengers to put a stop to Namor after he attacked the Avengers and their hideout in Wakanda. Nevertheless, Black Panther bans all X-Men from entering Wakanda and brands them enemies. He then informs Storm that their marriage has been annulled and that Storm is no longer is his wife.

Following the Avengers vs. X-Men event she eventually becomes the leader of the Extraordinary X-Men and relocates mutants to Limbo when the Terrigen Mist began spreading all across the world.

She eventually leads the X-Men in war against the Inhumans before stepping down and Kitty Pryde replacing her. Despite stepping down as leader, Storm would remain a member of the X-Men teaming with Jean Grey and facing off against Viper and the Femme Fatales.

Artist The Imaginative Hobbyist would first mock up Titans actress Anna Diop as the iconic X-Men leader and Queen of Wakanda.

He wrote, “Imagined Titans’ Anna Diop into Storm.” He then detailed that the original picture was from Fault Magazine by photographer Raen Badua.

The Imaginative Hobbyist would then provide some effects to the photo showing Storm’s weather manipulation abilities.

Following his mock up of Anna Diop, The Imaginative Hobbyist would then share a mock up of Sasha Banks as Storm.

Take a look.

What do you make of The Imaginative Hobbyist’s mockups of Anna Diop and Sasha Banks as Storm? Would you want to see either of them play Storm in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
