The Suicide Squad Has Roster And Setting Revealed In New Extended Synopsis

With The Suicide Squad’s release only six months away, Warner Bros. has begun to heat up the hype train, recently releasing a brand-new and extended synopsis for the film that confirms who will be a member of the team and where they’ll be sent on their mission.

In the first half of their newly released synopsis, Warner Bros. has revealed that the film will see the eponymous team of villains in both Bell Reeve prison – the maximum security penitentiary where Amanda Waller finds recruits for Task Force X throughout DC Media, including the comics and The CW’s Arrow – and the well-known fictional South American DC backdrop of Corto Maltese.

The synopsis reads as follows:

“Welcome to hell — a.k.a. Bell Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out — even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X. Today’s do-or-die assignment? Assemble a collection of cons, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin, and everyone’s favorite [psycho], Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and drop them (literally) on the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese.”

Oddly, no mention is made of Polka-Dot Man (David Dastmalchian) despite the fact that he is set to appear in the film. That’s telling, especially given how expendable members of Waller’s Task Force are.

As it continues, the plot summary details the risks and resistance the mercenaries will face, plus the carnage we can expect: “Trekking through a jungle teeming with militant adversaries and guerrilla forces at every turn, the Squad is on a search-and-destroy mission with only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave…and Amanda Waller’s government techies in their ears, tracking their every movement.”

“And as always, one wrong move and they’re dead (whether at the hands of their opponents, a teammate, or Waller herself). If anyone’s laying down bets, the smart money is against them—all of them,” the synopsis concludes.

It’s known that The Suicide Squad filmed in not only Georgia, but also Central America, a shooting location which game fans their first that Corto Maltese might figure into the film’s plot.

A fictional country infamous for its constant turmoil, Corto Maltese, like Bel Reeve, has made appearances through various DC projects, including Frank Miller’s Dark Knight Returns and Tim Burton’s Batman. However, in James Gunn’s soft reboot, the South American country is home to a Nazi prison with a history of twisted experiments.

Residing on the island and in the prison is the “Beast”, and though the synopsis unsurprisingly avoids making any mention of its existence, our research heavily suggests that the mysterious creature is noneother than the Justice League’s Silver Age alien foe, Starro the Conqueror.

It’s unclear when, or even if, Starro’s appearance in the film will be confirmed prior to its release. It’s possible that the studio could independently confirm his role, or that the single-eyed monster from beyond the stars could make a ‘stinger’ appearance in the film’s as-of-yet-unannounced-but-inevitable first trailer, but as of writing, the only evidence in favor of Starro’s appearance is a set photo which appears to show the Suicide Squad in combat amidst a small set of Starro-drone-controlled enemies.

Squad and Starro Victim

Like fellow Warner Bros. releases such as Justice League: The Snyder Cut and Godzilla Vs. Kong, The Suicide Squad will release simultaneously for theathers and HBO Max on August 6th.
