The Mandalorian And The Clone Wars Appear To Be Rapidly Falling Off Disney+ Trending Charts Following The Firing Of Gina Carano

Gina Carano

The Mandalorian and Star Wars: The Clone Wars are quickly falling off Disney+’s trending tab following the firing of Gina Carano from The Mandalorian.

If you are not familiar with Disney+, the streaming platform has a Trending tab, where they presumably list out the most popular shows and movies on their platform.

It looks like this on the Disney+ home page and it appears to rank them based on user behavior. In the image below WandaVision is ranked at the top because it’s probably the most watched show on the platform.

The website Whats On Disney Plus has actually been tracking the trending tab week by week and listing out what the popular shows and movies are.

Their charts reveal that interest in Star Wars specifically The Mandalorian and The Clone Wars has plummeted since Disney and Lucasfilm unceremoniously fired Gina Carano via a press statement that quickly went viral over social media.

The Mandalorian

Whats On Disney Plus reports that The Mandalorian was last at the top trending spot on Disney+ on their chart for the week ending Sunday December 20, 2020. The Season 2 finale aired on December 18th.

Not only was The Mandalorian the top spot, but Star Wars: The Clone Wars was ranked 4th. No other Star Wars properties were on the list.

For the week ending December 27th, The Mandalorian would slip one spot to second behind newcomer Soul. The Clone Wars would fall to ninth.

The Mandalorian would maintain its rank at number 2 for the week ending January 3rd. The Clone Wars would jump back up to fourth.

The next week, ending January 10th, The Mandalorian was still second behind Soul. Meanwhile The Clone Wars would fall to seventh.

For the week ending January 17th, The Mandalorian would still be in second, but this time behind newcomer WandaVision. The Clone Wars would fall a spot to eighth.

The Mandalorian

The Mandalorian would slip 2 spots to fourth for the week ending January 24th. It would fall behind The Simpsons and newcomer Pixar Popcorn. The Clone Wars stayed steady at eighth.

Two weeks before Carano was fired, Whats On Disney Plus reported that for the week ending Sunday January 30, 2021, The Mandalorian was ranked fifth. It was behind WandaVision, Dinosaurs, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, and The Simpsons.

As for The Clone Wars, it fell to 11th behind The Mandalorian, Moana, Soul, Jessie, Frozen 2, and Pixar Pocorn. The only other Star Wars property on the list was Star Wars Rebels ranked at 23rd.

The Mandalorian

The week ending February 7th, the week right before Carano was fired, The Mandalorian was back up to fourth and The Clone Wars was in eighth.

The week after Carano was fired, ending on February 14th, the rankings were still pretty steady. The Mandalorian was fifth and The Clone Wars was tenth.

However, The Mandalorian plummeted down five spots to tenth for the week ending February 21st. It was beat out by WandaVision, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, newcomer Flora & Ulysses, The Simpsons, newcomer The Muppet Show, newcomer Book of Life, Moana, Bluey, and Jessie. The Clone Wars fell to 12th with Frozen 2 ahead of it.

For the week ending February 28th, The Mandalorian is no longer in the top 10. It’s fallen all the way to 17th. In fact, The Clone Wars is actually ahead of it in 16th.

The two Star Wars shows were beat out by WandaVision, Flora & Ulysses, Book of Life, The Muppet Show, newcomer Myth: A Frozen Tale, Cheaper By The Dozen, newcomer Secrets of Sulpher Spring, Cheaper By The Dozen 2, The Simpsons, Mickey Mouse: Clubhouse, Bluey, Moana, Frozen, Frozen 2, and Coco.

Now, you might be thinking that 17th isn’t that far down the list for a show whose Season 2 finale aired on December 18th. Well, The Mandalorian was ranked 14th for the week ending April 4, 2020 following the season finale of the first season on December 27th.

The Mandalorian

In fact for the week ending April 12, 2020, it was ranked third! It would stay in third for the next week, but would eventually fall to 17th at the end of April for the week ending April 26th. But that’s four months following the season finale, not two months afterwards.

And if you want to go back to the week ending March 29th, which appears to be when What’s On Disney Plus began tracking the trending charts, The Mandalorian is still ranked 9th and The Clone Wars is 3rd.

The shows ahead of The Mandalorian are Frozen 2, The Simpsons, The Clone Wars, Mickey Mouse Funhouse, Moana, Toy Story 4, Frozen, and Aladdin (2019).

It definitely looks like the firing of Gina Carano has negatively impacted both The Mandalorian and The Clone Wars on Disney’s trending tab. One has to wonder just how many people have canceled their subscriptions to the platform and if they will keep those subscriptions canceled.

What do you make of The Mandalorian plummeting down the Disney+ trending charts following the firing of Gina Carano?
