Crunchyroll And Kadokawa Announce Release Month For Rising of the Shield Hero Season 2

Crunchyroll and Kadokawa announced the release window for Rising of the Shield Hero Season 2.

The second season along with a third season was announced back in September 2019. In that announcement from 2019, they confirmed that Naofumi, Raphtalia, and Filo will “have new friends and will fight new enemies.”

They also released key art indicating the second season will adapt the Spirit Tortoise arc.

A year after this announcement, they released another piece of key art as well as a trailer for the second season. They also revealed the show would arrive sometime in 2021.

Now, Crunchyroll and Kadokawa revealed the second season will be hitting the airwaves sometime in October 2021.

The anime’s official English twitter handle shared a video with the release window.

The second season will see Masato Jinbo take over directing duties from Takao Abo. Jinbo previously worked on HxEros and Restaurant to Another World.

The Japanese cast will remain the same Kaito Ishikawa returns as Naofumi, Asami Seto returns as Raphtalia, and Rina Hidaka reprises her role as Filo.

The second season also sees the return of Maaya Uchida as Melty, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Ren Amaki, Makoto Takahashi as Motoyasu Kitamura, Yoshitaka Yamaya as Itsuki Kawasumi, Natsuko Hara as Rishia Ivyred, and Kikuko Inoue as Mirelia Q. Melromarc.

The second season will see Keigo Koyanagi on Series Composition, Masahiro Suwa on Character Design, Masahiro Suwa and Kota Sera as Chief Animation Directors, and Takeshi Takura as Design Leader.

Animation production will be done by Kinema Citrus and DRMOVIE.

Rising of the Shield Hero is based off the web novel written by Aneko Yusagi.

It has since been adapted into a light novel and published by Media Factory featuring illustrations by Seira Minami. There are 22 volumes in publication. Aiya Kyū would adapt the series into a manga.

Back in April 2019 it was reported there were over 6.2 million copies of the light novel and manga adaptations in print.
