Release Date For Demon Slayer – Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train Announced

The official Demon Slayer website announced a North American release date for the wildly popular Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train.

The movie will be released into theaters in the United States and Canada. It will also be screened in theaters with 4DX and IMAX screens.

The official news statement reads, “Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Trainarrives in theaters, including in 4DX and on IMAX screens, nationwide in the U.S. and Canada on April 23, 2021 and on digital June 22, 2021!”

It adds, “The film heads to the big screens in both subtitled as well as English dub with tickets going on sale April 9, 2021 at https://www.funimation.com/demonslayermovie/

Finally, it concludes, “Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Trainwill also be available on digital on Apple TV, Microsoft Store, Vudu, Google Play*, PlayStation Store, and Amazon beginning June 22, 2021. Pre-orders for the film will begin on April 26, 2021 on Apple TV, Microsoft Store, and PlayStation Store.”

Here’s the official description for the film, “Tanjiro and the group have completed their rehabilitiation training at the Butterfly mansion, and they arrive to their next mission on the Mugen Train, where over 40 people have disappeared in a very short period of time.”

It adds, “Tanjiro and Nezuko, along with Zenitsu and Inosuke, join one of the most powerful swordsmen within the Demon Slayer Corps, Flame Hashira Kyojuro Rengoku, to face the demon aboard the Mugen Train on track to despair.”

As of October 26, 2020, Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train became “the fastest film achieve over $100M at the box offices in Japan after only ten days in theaters.”

The-Numbers reports the film has already made $374 million at the global box office without any gross in North America yet. $358 million of that came from just Japan.

CNN reported at the end of December 2020 that the film became the highest grossing movie ever in Japan beating out the Oscar-winner Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki film Spirited Away. Spirited Away earned $304 million at the Japanese box office.

Spirited Away is still the highest grossing anime film of all time with a worldwide box office of $383.3 million. However, once Demon Slayer arrives in North America it’s highly likely it will be dethroned.

Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train is adapted from Koyogaru Gotoge’s Demon Slayer manga published by Shueisha in Jump Comics.

The movie is directed by Haruo Sotozaki with Akira Matsushima as the Chief Animation Director and heading up character design.

The production is done ufotable, who also worked on the screenplay.

The cast includes Natsuki Hanae and Zach Aguilar as Tanjiro Kamado, Akari Kito and Abby Trott as Nezuko Kamado, Hiro Shimon and Aleks Le as Zenitsu Agatsuma, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka and Bryce Papenbrook as Inosuke Hashibira, Satoshi Hino and Mark Whitten as Kyojuro Rengoku, and Daisuke Hirakawa and Landon McDonald as Enmu.
