According to Fmr. Democratic Senator from North Dakota Heidi Heitkamp, former-The Mandalorian actor Gina Carano is an outright “Nazi” who “hangs with white supremacists”.

Heitkamp publicly declared Carano as a Nazi and white supremacist sympathizer in a March 19th, 2021 appearance on Real Time with Bill Maher, where she appeared as the episode’s featured guest alongside Reason Editor-in-Chief Nick Gillespie.

During the course of the episode, Maher would eventually turn the topic of conversation to cancel culture, lamenting, “I don’t want to talk about cancel culture and this nonsense every week, but I just don’t think people understand how much this is a tsunami, and how fast the goalposts change, almost on a weekly basis.”

“Not just what you say, now, it’s what you listen to. They can get you for that,” Maher continued. “What you order. Who you say you like. Any sort of association,  or retweet something, you know, ‘I like this picture’.”

In support of his point that cancel culture is an overly punitive and judgemental form of social interaction, Maher sought to point to the firing of Carano, but could not recall her name off the top of his head.

Carano was fired from Disney and Lucasfilm on February 11th, following her sharing of an Instagram post by @warriorpriestgympodcast to her account which warned that “Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…even by children.”

“Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews,” the post continued. “How is that any different from hating someone for their political views?”

Given his moment of forgetfulness, Maher turned to ask the panel, “Who was the woman in The Mandalorian? What did she do, she liked something?”, before being immediately met with a response from Heitkamp, who laughed as she stated that “She was a Nazi. ”

“She’s involved in White Supremacy,” she added.

Gillespie soon pointed out the absurdity of Heitkamp’s statement, noting that “She called other people Nazis, so she’s the Nazi,” leading Maher to exasperatedly summarize, “Okay, everyone’s a Nazi now.”

“She does hang with White Supremacists,” the Fmr. Senator then asserted. “She does? Hangs with White Supremacists?” subsequently asked a baffled Maher, to which Heitkamp confirmed, “Yes.”

Though Maher attempted to argue that Carano could only be considered a ‘White Supremacist’ when measured against a set of ever moving goalposts, Heitkamp proceeded to turn the conversation away from Carano, declaring that “I suppose I’m now subject to defamation now […] but we have to be really careful. There’s two things the Republicans think they’re going to get Biden on: Cancel culture and this whole Dr. Seuss stuff that’s going on, where they’re reading Green Eggs and Ham, proving that some of these Senators can actually read, and immigration.”

Ultimately, though unsurprisingly, Heitkamp failed to present any further argument or evidence in support of her claims at any point during the remainder of the episode.

This particular exchange between Heitkamp, Gillespie, and Maher, was captured and uploaded to Twitter by @YetiCast, who asked “Why have I not seen anyone talking about this? A former US Senator called @ginacarano some of the most heinous things while on Real Time with Bill Maher. How is this not slander?”

Later on in the discussion, Heitkamp would add that she was “so sick of Republicans using the term cancel culture to somehow victimize the Republican Party.”
