The Daily Stupid: Lysol, A Call For Diversity Among Bluey’s Cartoon Dogs, and Nancy Pelosi

Welcome to The Daily Stupid, where we cover some of the dumbest and most idiotic things happening around the world and on the internet.

In this special edition, each one of our Bounding Into Comics writers picked one respective item for The Daily Stupid.

Not only that, but we did a special livestream on it, where we each shared our picks live!

With that, let’s get to it.

1. John F. Trent: Woman Sprays Aerosol Around Toddler In Grocery Cart

Political commentator Paul Joseph Watson shared a video of a mother spraying some kind of aerosol spray around the head of what is assumed to be her child sitting in a grocery cart.

Take a look.

It’s more than likely this woman is using Lysol and it makes her a complete and utter buffon.

Lysol’s website states, “We do not recommend directly breathing in Lysol products, which would likely happen if you spray Lysol on a face mask and do not wash it immediately after.”

That’s right they recommend you do not directly breathe in Lysol products, but that’s exactly what this mother is forcing her kid to do.

In order to “protect” her child from coronavirus, she’s having them breathe in Lysol.

Seriously, what a complete and utter buffoon.

2. Spencer Baculi: Why Isn’t There More Representation In This Cartoon Dog Show?

On April 14th, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, the country’s national broadcaster, published a piece by Beverly Wang in which the Australian journalist shared her thoughts on Bluey, “the award-winning, mega-hit animated series about the Heelers, a family of dog-shaped humans — parents Bandit and Chilli, four-year-old Bingo and six-year-old Bluey — who live in a gorgeous Queenslander with city views, perched on a lush hilltop in sunny Brisbane.”

Though she opens her piece by admitting that two episodes of Bluey made her cry due to their emotional resonance and asserting that “as a parent and fellow fan, I’ve also learnt plenty from Bluey,” Wang soon reveals that her view of the show is not entirely positive, as she struggles with the show’s “representation”.

“My question is this: Can Bluey be more representative?” Wang writes. “As a parent of colour, I am always conscious of the presence — or absence — of diverse representation in kids’ pop culture, what it means for children and the conversations we have around that. I sincerely believe you don’t have to be ‘Other’ to think about this too.”

She continues, “We live in a world where the majority of main characters on children’s television are white; where there are more animals than people of colour protagonists populating the pages of children’s books.”

“Where are the disabled, queer, poor, gender diverse, dogs of colour and single-parent dog families in Bluey’s Brisbane?” asks Wang. “If they’re in the background, let them come forward. (Maynard, voiced by Sean Choolburra, I’m looking at you.)”

I’m trying to wrap my head around the concept of “diverse” cartoon dogs. They’re clearly meant to represent real world breeds, so how, exactly, would one present the dogs as diverse? Outright caricatures of real-life races? Making certain dog breeds into real-world allegory for specific races or lifestyles? I’d be seriously interested in how Wang things this could be accomplished without just being outright racist or bigoted.

Stop demanding that every piece of media, no matter how innocuous, bend to your every demand. Otherwise, like Wang, you’ll most likely find yourself ranting about cartoon dogs and occupying a spot in an entry of The Daily Stupid.

3. John Trent: Nancy Pelosi

Regardless, of where you stand on the Derek Chauvin case, Nancy Pelosi’s comments following Judge Cahill reading the verdict are completely and utterly moronic.

Daily Wire reporter Ryan Saavedra shared a clip of Pelosi where she states, “So again, thank you George Floyd for sacrificing your life for justice. For being there to call out to your mom. How heartbreaking was that. Call out for your mom. I can’t breathe.”

“But because of you and because of thousands, millions of people around the world who came out for justice, your name will always be synonymous with justice. And now we have to make sure justice prevails in the sentencing, but that it’s own procedure.”

George Floyd did not sacrifice anything. A sacrifice, according to Merriam-Webseter is the “surrender of something for the sake of something else.” He did not do that and to claim he did is just plain imbecilic.
