LEGO To Make Comic Books With Skybound And AMEET

LEGO will be making new comic books as part of a deal with Skybound Entertainment and children’s book publisher AMEET.

In a press release from Image Comics, they explained the deal, “Today multiplatform content company Skybound Entertainment and global children’s book publisher AMEET announced a new partnership to launch LEGO® branded comic books.”

They add, “The exclusive English-language licensed publishing partnership will bring LEGO properties into Skybound’s vast slate of notable comic book series, including THE WALKING DEAD, INVINCIBLE, and ULTRAMEGA.”

Senior Vice President and Editor-in-Chief at Skybound Entertainment Sean Mackiewicz provided some more details about what kind of comic books they have in mind.

He stated, “As a lifelong fan of LEGO toys and content, nothing brings me greater joy than partnering with AMEET on this iconic brand. Each title will be a portal to the endless worlds accessible in every LEGO play session, created to inspire the LEGO builders, readers, and thinkers of tomorrow.”

Vice President and Publisher at AMEET Eric Huang also provided a statement, “Comic Books form a key component of the LEGO Books publishing strategy to bring LEGO stories to young readers everywhere.”

He added, “Skybound is the perfect LEGO Books comics partner. They’re as passionate as we are about publishing books that encourage creativity and play.”

No titles were announced, but the press release promises, “Skybound’s first venture into the LEGO Group’s vast library of intellectual property will be announced in the coming months.”

LEGO has a number of Themes that could be adapted into comic books including Bionicle, Ninjago, and their City theme. They also have Lego Island and Lego Racers as well.

It’s unclear if the deal will allow Skybound to publish comics about other branded themes like Lego Star Wars, Lego Batman, and Lego Marvel Super Heroes.

We’ll have to find out in the coming months.

This isn’t the first time LEGO stories have been turned into comics. They previously published a Ninjago series as well as DC Comics themed series.
