It’s unclear if Alligator Loki is even a Loki based on the most recent episode of the show, “Journey Into Mystery.”

Richard E. Grant’s Classic Loki and Owen Wilson’s Mobius debate the matter in the episode.

Classic Loki asks Mobius, “You really don’t remember him?” Mobius responds, “I mean the TVA arrested a lot of Lokis, but, no, I don’t remember an alligator. I mean, who’s to say he’s even a Loki Variant?”

Grant responds, “He is green, isn’t he?”

Mobius then posits, “I don’t know, he could be lying. The long con. Of course, that just makes him more likely to be a Loki. It’s always the game within the game with you guys, which I respect.”

Speaking with Marvel.com, Tom Hiddleston, who plays Loki, didn’t make things any clearer.

He stated, “The question is, ‘Is he really Loki? Or is he just green? It’s such a funny question that [the Lokis] all bicker about. One thing about Loki is that Loki loves to be right. And they all have a different opinion about this alligator.”

As for how the character came about, Michael Waldron explained, “We were talking about [how] we want to meet many different versions of Loki in this show. I was just like, there should be an Alligator Loki. And it’s like, well, why? Because he’s green.”

Waldron would also chime in on the debate on whether he is a Loki or not, “It’s so stupid, but it also makes total sense. You almost have to take it seriously, like maybe he is [a Loki]?”

He continued, “Why shouldn’t there be an alligator version of Loki? For all we know, that’s an alligator universe or whatever. It’s just the sort of irreverent thing that, in this show, we play straight and make the audience take it seriously.”

Waldron eventually teased, “I know, but I want people to wonder. I want that to be the next great Marvel debate. Is Alligator Loki really a Loki or not?”
