New Dragon Ball Film, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Announced for 2022

The next cinematic entry in the Dragon Ball Super canon, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, has officially been announced for a 2022 release date.

Revealed by Dragon Ball Super anime producer Akio Iyoku, the film’s producer Norihiro Hayashida, and the Japanese of Goku herself Masako Nozawa, during the July 23rd San Diego Comic-Con @ Home Dragon Ball Special Panel, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero will serve as an official continuation of the anime series’ storyline and pick up some time after the conclusion of the Tournament of Power.

According to Iyoku, the film’s title is meant to “emphasize that this movie is about the superhero vibes.”

Alongside the above teaser, which previewed the film’s updated animation style, several character design sheets were also revealed, giving fans their first look at an older Pan:

As well as the first confirmation that the Namekian has an actual home on Earth:

A reference sheet of two of the film’s new characters, a pair of seemingly Cyborg 009-inspired superheroes designed by series creator Akira Toriyama also made its debut during the panel.

However, as of writing, the characters’ names are yet to be released.

Details on the film itself are scarce, but the Comic-Con @ Home panelists confirmed that the film would release sometime in 2022.

It’s also unknown how he last film in the franchise, Dragon Ball Super: Broly, will play into Super Hero’s story.
