DC and Warner Bros. Drop Brand New The Batman Footage At CinemaCon

Though some new footage of Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle and Robert Pattinson in the Batsuit was released a few months ago, all the hype for Matt Reeves’ upcoming The Batman has been built around the debut of the film’s first trailer during last year’s DC FanDome showcase.

That’s beginning to change, however, as earlier this week., Warner Bros. offered a new look at the film to attendees of CinemaCon.
The footage hasn’t gone public or so much as leaked, at least as far as we know, but ComicBook.com was nice enough to transcribe the contents of the sizzle reel.

According to the news outlet, as “Bruce Wayne walls to ominous piano music,” a new quote from Robert Pattinson is heard. “For some reason, Batman has always stood to as one of the major characters of the 20th century,” he says.
The clip then cuts to a shot of him taking off the cowl, wherein he adds that The Batman is “radically different” from other installments before being joined by director Matt Reeves, who chimes in, “we haven’t seen anything ‘grounding it the way Year One does’.”

Reeves tehn reminds everyone “it’s not an origin story” like Batman Begins. Instead, this version of Bruce is early on in his career as a vigilante, despite having been at it for a few years.
More footage gave an extended peek at explosions, cops, Battinson beating up thugs, and the ominous red lighting that’s a trademark of the trailer and film art by Jim Lee.

“He’s really working out this rage,” Pattinson says over a clip of various weapons being used to stop some thugs. “All the fights seem very personal.”
“We can’t wait for you to see The Batman in theaters, next year,” Reeves concludes as the Batmobile drives away with flames behind it. “And what we’re trying to do is create a version of it [Gotham and much more] that you haven’t seen before.”
The first shot of Andy Serkis as Alfred could also be seen, although Comicbook.com provided no further elaboration on its inclusion beyond its placement in the reel.

Even if we don’t get to see all this new footage, we should catch our first glimpse of Serkis as Alfred before The Batman premieres on March 4th, 2022.
