Ms. Marvel Promo Art Suggests Marvel To Change Her Powers In Upcoming Disney Plus Show

According to a new piece of promotional art, fledgling heroine Kamala Khan – better known as the current Ms. Marvel – is the next superhero set to join the club of comic book characters who have suffered significant changes during their transitions from the page to the silver screen.

As seen in a poster produced by UK-based product licensing organization Pyramid International, ostensibly made as part of an official partnership between themselves and Marvel, the legacy heroine will boast not only a segmented, MCU-ified version of her usual costume, but also a new power in the form of what the product’s listing calls a “Crystal Smash.”

The crystalline theme of Khan’s supposed new powers can also be seen in artwork featured on a Pyramid International produced badge pack, which sees the crystal imagery placed not only on two separate Ms. Marvel badges – one of herself and one of her logo – but also behind the show’s main logo, suggesting that the visual effect is more than just a passing element.

Curiously, the ‘Crystal Smash’ effect which gives Khan her ‘embiggened’ fist appears to serve as a stand-in for the polymorph and stretching abilities possessed by her comic book counterpart, allowing Marvel to play with the more ‘fantastic’ (Reed Richards pun slightly intended) aspects of her powers without having to navigate the uncanny valley inherent in any depiction of a stretchy human being.

It’s also possible that Khan’s powers may have a more aesthetic relation to the Terrigen Crystals themselves, perhaps fusing to her Inhuman physiology in some manipulatable way, shape, or form.
However, given the embarrassing endeavor that was the Marvel Cinematic Universe-canon, live-action Inhumans show, it’s likely that Marvel may end up just distancing themselves from the Kree-manipulated species all together, potentially using the crystal theme simply as a nod to her comic book origin.
