Film scooper and critic Grace Randolph recently claimed that the upcoming Lightyear film will have “substantial LGBT representation.”

Randolph informed her followers on Twitter.

She wrote, “I know some of you are disheartened by the #Eternals Rotten Tomatoes score, considering it features the 1st LGBT couple in the MCU but don’t worry, #Disney is not giving up!”

I hear there is substantial LGBT representation in #Lightyear as well! (Not Buzz, another character),” she added.

Disney announced the Lightyear film back in December 2020 during their Disney Investor Day 2020 presentation. During the presentation Pixar Chief Creative Officer Pete Doctor explained the film saying, “At first glance you might think this is a Toy Story film. Well, not so fast.”

He continued, “See, back when we created the first Toy Story, we designed Buzz Lightyear with the idea that he was a toy based on some really cool character from an epic blockbuster film. Well, all these years later we decided it’s time to make that film.”

“Directed by Pixar vet Angus MacLane, co-director of Finding Dory, Lightyear is the definitive origin story of the original Buzz Lightyear. And it reveals how this young test pilot became the Space Ranger we all know him to be today,” Doctor stated.

Releasing June 17, 2022, Disney and Pixar’s “Lightyear” is an all-new, original feature film that presents the definitive origin story of Buzz Lightyear—the hero who inspired the toy—introducing the legendary Space Ranger who would win generations of fans. Featuring the voice of Chris Evans as Buzz, the sci-fi action-adventure is directed by Angus MacLane (co-director “Finding Dory”) and produced by Galyn Susman (“Toy Story That Time Forgot”). © 2021 Disney/Pixar. The official description for the film states, “The sci-fi action-adventure presents the definitive origin story of Buzz Lightyear—the hero who inspired the toy—introducing the legendary Space Ranger who would win generations of fans.”

The film’s director Angus MacLane notes, “Lightyear really is a story that’s very personal. It’s meant to be, more than anything, a really fun movie in the way that I work in movies because I like movies. I like watching movies. And I really want it to be something that’s enjoyable and fun, and it would just stay with you, and it would just be something you would go and see again.”

He added, “That sense in movies like when we were kids. Lightyear is a love letter to the process, and a love letter to movies.”

The Toy Story franchise, which the Lightyear film is apart of given it’s being described as an in-universe movie that Andy would have seen that inspired the Buzz Lightyear toy, is not known for including LGBT content in its films.

However, Disney did add a homosexual couple in Toy Story 4. When Bonnie is dropped off for orientation for kindergarten two women are shown giving a hug to a young boy.

That same couple were also seen after Kindergarten orientation ended with the young boy showing off his art project to them.

Toy Story 4 faced criticism for the inclusion of the homosexual couple in the film from activist group One Million Moms.

They claimed the inclusion of the homosexual couple “is subtle in order to desensitize children.” They also noted that the scenes sole purpose was “to normalize this lifestyle.”

The group concluded their criticism stating, ” Disney should stick to entertaining instead of pushing an agenda and exposing children to controversial topics.” They then encouraged people to sign a petition “stating you will continue to no longer trust Disney since their actions have veered away from family-friendly entertainment.”
