Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson Enlists Gal Gadot And Ryan Reynolds To Help Realize A Marvel And DC Cinematic Crossover

Between his recently released Red Notice and his upcoming Black Adam, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is a busy action star, but it looks like he may be working behind the scenes to arrange the unattainable – a Marvel and DC crossover on the big screen.

He’s going to start small, or so he told Variety when he talked to them during the red carpet premiere of Netflix’s Red Notice, a film starring himself and Wonder Woman actress Gal Gadot.

The man who declared the power structure in the DC Universe is about to change with his arrival wants to see Black Adam in a movie with the god-killing Amazon first – which, given the character’s historical backstories and connections to the ‘gods’, has a good chance of happening and would make a lot of sense.

“I think there’s a crossover with Black Adam, Wonder Woman,” Johnson said before thinking bigger and including his other Red Notice co-star, Ryan Reynolds, in the discussion.

But Johnson doesn’t want to see Reynolds put on a Green Lantern ring again and rejoin the DCEU. No, he sees the Free Guy actor crossing into DC films as the Marvel character he’s most synonymous with: Deadpool.

“What we were just talking about today was, you know, I turned to Ryan and Gal and I said there should be a crossover, Marvel and the DC Universe, and we could be the ones that possibly make it happen,” Johnson added. “So we’ll see, we’ll see down the road,”

Yes, we’ll see – or rather we might, since such a development is a real long shot. While it has happened before, and Doomsday Clock alluded to another confrontation between universes, these intra-company adventures happened in the comics, where licensing and rights issues aren’t as confusing as they are in Hollywood.

Reaching this next level of cinematic clashes would be no small feat, but it could happen, especially with both Marvel and DC Films tapping into the multiverse with Spider-Man: No Way Home this December and The Flash next year, respectively.

And when it comes to Deadpool, Reynolds reprising the role is practically inevitable, with the currently-in-development Deadpool 3 and a rumored appearance by the Merc With A Mouth in Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness set to get things rolling.

Benedict Cumberbatch stars as Doctor Strange and Tom Holland stars as Spider-Man/Peter Parker in Columbia Pictures’ SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME.

Passing the next threshold from an Earth in the MCU to Earth-Prime in the DCEU will be trickier and, baby steps aside, we’ll probably get the Wonder Woman/Black Adam battle or team-up first.

Before that can occur, though, Johnson has to shift the hierarchy in Black Adam, which doesn’t have a trailer yet despite the sneak peeks gifted us during both this year and last’s DC FanDome.
