After being attacked countless times on social media for her views on transgender individuals, Harry Potter scribe J.K. Rowling recently attempted to put the unwarranted controversy behind her by clarifying that she “never said there are only two genders,” but rather questioned “whether sex or gender identity should form the basis of decisions [in] areas where women and girls currently have legal rights and protections”.

Rowling’s recent motivation to clarify her views on gender appear to stem from a December 2021 poll conducted by Rasmussen Reports which found that most Americans agree with the author’s alleged position that “there are only two genders, male and female.”

As detailed by Rasmussen Reports, between December 21-22 1,000 participants were asked, “Do you agree or disagree with this statement: There are two genders, male and female.”

According to the polling publication, 75% of American adults agreed with the statement, with 64% strongly agreeing and 18% disagreeing.

Alluding to the results obtained by Rasmussen Reports’ poll, J.K. Rowling took to Twitter on December 29th to point out, “I’ve never said there are only two genders.”

Rather, she explained, she believed “there are innumerable gender identities.”

The author then asserted, “The question at the heart of this debate is whether sex or gender identity should form the basis of decisions on safeguarding, provision of services, sporting categories and other areas where women and girls currently have legal rights and protections.”

“Using the words ‘sex’ and ‘gender’ interchangeably obscures the central issue of this debate,” Rowling continued, linking to an article the Harry Potter author wrote in June of last year, where she went through her reasons for speaking out on sex and gender issues. “If you’re interested in what I actually said, see [the piece] (in which I literally say ‘trans lives matter’ and ‘trans rights are human rights.’)”

Following Rowling’s callout of their framing of her words, Rasmussen Reports issued a correction to their original report and apologized for their mistake.

“Rasmussen Reports regrets any misunderstanding that may have been caused by the wording of this survey and article, and extends a sincere apology to Ms. Rowling for misstating her opinion,” read their clarification.

Social Justice Warriors first attacked J.K. Rowling in December of 2019 when the renowned author tweeted her support for Maya Forstater, a tax expert who claimed to have been let go from her job for publishing a series of tweets in which she openly questioned the British government’s plans to allow people to declare their own gender.

“I share the concerns of @fairplaywomen that radically expanding the legal definition of ‘women’ so that it can include both males and females makes it a meaningless concept, and will undermine women’s rights & protections for vulnerable women & girls,” wrote Forstater in 2018.

She added, “Some transgender people have cosmetic surgery. But most retain their birth genitals. Everyone’s equality and safety should be protected, but women and girls lose out on privacy, safety and fairness if males are allowed into changing rooms, dormitories, prisons, sports teams.”

In her op-ed regarding her support for Forstater, Rowling told readers, “My interest in trans issues pre-dated Maya’s case by almost two years, during which I followed the debate around the concept of gender identity closely.”

“It’s been clear to me for a while that the new trans activism is having (or is likely to have, if all its demands are met) a significant impact on many of the causes I support, because it’s pushing to erode the legal definition of sex and replace it with gender,” she said.

Further, just last month, J.K. Rowling revealed that her family’s addressed was posted on Twitter by “three activist actors who took pictures of themselves in front of our house, carefully positioning themselves to ensure that our address was visible.”

“I’ve now received so many death threats I could paper the house with them, and I haven’t stopped speaking out,” she disclosed. “Perhaps – and I’m just throwing this out there – the best way to prove your [transgender rights] movement isn’t a threat to women, is to stop stalking, harassing and threatening us.”

This wasn’t even the first time the Harry Potter author slammed her more militant and aggressive critics.

In July of this year, in the midst of yet another pathetic cancellation attempt spearheaded by woke activists, Rowling revealed that “trans activists have threatened to beat, rape, assassinate and bomb me,” all of which she sarcastically credited with helping her realise “that this movement poses no risk to women whatsoever.”
