Spencer previously appeared to indicate that the film was actually in development while responding to fans after he shared a video of him skateboarding on a tennis court.

In the original post, Spencer wrote, “I am still recovering from my Achilles injury. It’s fun to make what I can make with my limitations in the healing process.”

In the comments a user congratulated him saying, “Congratulations on getting the call to work on TAS3”

Spencer responded, “thank you so much.”

However, on the same Instagram post Spencer made it clear he was not attached to The Amazing Spider-Man 3.

A user would ask, “Is the amazing Spider-Man 3 confirmed?? Please reply…”

Spencer responded, “no it’s not. I don’t know anything about it.”

Due to the widespread nature of the tweet sharing his initial Instagram comment, Spencer would share a new Instagram post making it crystal clear he was not confirming the development of The Amazing Spider-Man 3.

He wrote, “This is a MISUNDERSTANDING. I thought this fan was talking the current movie and was abbreviating and I didn’t read carefully enough, I apologize for that.”

“I answered a lot of congratulations messages about the movie that just came out and I was trying to write all the fans back to make sure they knew I appreciated their excitement over No Way Home not over any new project,” he explained.

Finally, he reiterated, ” Once again I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT ANY NEW SPIDER-MAN MOVIE WITH ANDREW GARFIELD. I AM GLAD THE FANS ARE SO EXCITED BUT PLEASE DO NOT ASSUME THINGS THAT ARE NOT TRUE THEN PUT THEM ON ME.”

Following the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, a petition was created by Trav B Ryan asking for Sony Pictures to make The Amazing Spider-Man 3 starring Andrew Garfield.

In the petition, created on Change.org, Ryan writes, “[SPOILERS AHEAD] Spider-Man No Way Home is arguably the best Spider-Man movie to date and it will go down as one of the best, most ambitious, well paced movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. At times It was funny, emotional, and just really fun to watch.”

It continues, “A big part of that magic (no pun intended) was Andrew Garfield. The Peter Parker/Spider-Man from the “Amazing Spider-Man” franchise stole the show as soon as he stepped out of that sparkly ring and into Ned’s very tidy kitchen.  We felt every emotion he felt. Whether it was the pain of remembering Gwen, or the joy of him finally having “brothers”, we were right there  him,” it continues.

Ryan adds, “I mean come on, it wasn’t a dry eye in the audience when he saved MJ from falling to her death. He smiled because he had saved her life but he cried because he couldn’t save Gwen’s.

“This movie reminded us that Andrew and all his witty spider-like banter, is a great Spider-Man. But most importantly, a Spider-Man that deserves something. Something that Tobey and Tom respectfully had. A third try. Thank you Spider-Man No Way Home for reminding us about Andrew and helping us come to our Spidey senses,” the petition concludes.

It has received over 21,200 signatures at the time of writing.

Los Angeles, CA – Dec. 13, 2021: Amy Pascal, Producer, and Tom Holland attend the World Premiere of Columbia Pictures SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME at the Regency Village and Bruin Theaters.

When Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige and Spider-Man producer Amy Pascal were asked about what their future plans for the character, the two were tight lipped.

Feige told The New York Times, “Amy and I and Disney and Sony are talking about — yes, we’re actively beginning to develop where the story heads next, which I only say outright because I don’t want fans to go through any separation trauma like what happened after Far From Home. That will not be occurring this time.”

Pascal added, “At the end of the movie we just made, you see Spider-Man make a momentous decision, one that you’ve never seen him make before. It’s a sacrifice. And that gives us a lot to work with for the next film.”

Pascal did make it clear what their vision for Spider-Man is, “Kevin and I never want to lose sight of one thing: Peter Parker. That he’s a normal kid. That he is orphaned over and over again.”

“That he’s a teenager, so everything in his life is at a heightened pitch and everything matters more than anything. That he’s fueled by goodness and guilt. That he’s striving for a greater cause, and he’s vilified by the press,” she added.
