Godzilla TV Series Set In MonsterVerse Coming To Apple TV Plus

After months upon months of wondering, two bits of speculation are confirmed: a TV series inspired by Godzilla is coming to streaming and the Legendary MonsterVerse is absolutely going to continue.

The odd twist is the show that was rumored to be in development at HBO Max is headed instead for the much smaller service Apple TV Plus. Regardless, they have signed to add to the growing mythology of the Titans.

They also issued a synopsis to Deadline which hints there will be more human activity with one family at the center of it and Monarch’s mysterious origins will be investigated.

“Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and the shocking new reality that monsters are real, the untitled series explores one family’s journey to uncover its buried secrets and a legacy linking them to the secret organization known as Monarch,” says the synopsis.

Beyond that, we don’t know too much about the plot and we don’t yet have the title. Legendary Television is producing with the cooperation of Godzilla’s home base Toho. Representing them are Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita as executive producers.

Chris Black (Mad Men, Star Trek: Enterprise) is serving as showrunner and will executive produce with co-creator Matt Fraction (Hawkeye) and the Safehouse Pictures team of Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell.

Legendary’s official Twitter page rang in the news with an update cutting to the chase with all the details.

According to Deadline, this is a massive deal for Apple and Legendary. The studio was looking for ways to continue its MonsterVerse aside from more movies and Apple was most interested in the TV series idea Legendary was shopping around so they could “add more branded IP to a slate of original TV series that continues to grow.”

The MonsterVerse continues to expand too with the Skull Island animated series destined for Netflix and a fifth film entry once reported as a Son of Kong re-adaptation – though it could be anything – helmed by Godzilla vs. Kong director Adam Wingard.
