Twitter Falsely Claims Gina Carano Was Fired For “Comments Comparing COVID-19 Restrictions To The Nazis’ Treatment Of Jewish People”
Social media website Twitter falsely claimed in their trending topic of Gina Carano that she was fired from The Mandalorian for “comments comparing COVID-10 restrictions to the Nazis’ treatment of Jewish people.”
As part of their trending tab, Twitter editorialized discussions happening on their platform comparing Whoopi Goldberg’s two week suspension to Gina Carano’s firing.
They wrote, “Following Whoopi Goldberg’s two-week suspension from The View for comments regarding the Holocaust, people discuss actor Gina Carano’s firing from Disney’s series The Mandalorian for comments comparing COVID-19 restrictions to the Nazis’ treatment of Jewish people.”
This is simply not true. Carano did not compare COVID-19 restrictions to the Nazis’ treatment of Jewish people in her Instagram Story post that was used to justify her firing from The Mandalorian.
Carano shared a screenshot from warriorpriestgympodcast to her Instagram Story. The screenshot read, “Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…even by children.”
It then featured a quote that stated, “Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views?”
Accompanying these words was an image of children wielding blunt weapons chasing down a woman in undress.
As you can see in the screenshot of the post above no where is there a mention of COVID-19.
Following this post to her Instagram Story, a Disney spokesman announced in a statement that Carano had been fired.
The statement began, “Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future.”
It added, “Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”
Again, nowhere in this statement is there mention of COVID-19.

Carano has spoken out against COVID-19 restrictions. In September 2021, Carano responded Joe Biden’s then announcement of an “emergency rule to require all employers with 100 or more employees that together employ over 80 million workers to ensure their workforces are fully vaccinated or show a negative test at least once a week.”
The actress reacted by posting an image that reads, “The freedoms you surrender today are the freedoms your grandchildren will never know existed.”

When Biden’s rule was rolled out in November, Carano encouraged her followers to not comply.
First, she shared an image that read, “Your body does not belong to your employer, your school or your government.”
She then shared an image of herself from the set of Terror on the Prairie with the message of “Do Not Comply” written across her arms.
She captioned it, “‘Two weeks to flatten the curve.’ #DoNotComply”
In January 2022, The United States Supreme Court declared Joe Biden’s government did not have the authority to mandate vaccinations to employers with 100 or more employees.
They ruled, “Although Congress has indisputably given OSHA the power to regulate occupational dangers, it has not given that agency the power to regulate public health more broadly. Requiring
the vaccination of 84 million Americans, selected simply because they work for employers with more than 100 employees, certainly falls in the latter category.”
Not only did Carano warn about surrendering freedoms in regards to Biden’s vaccination mandate, but she also described the police action taking place in Australia as “tyrannical rule” after a man was arrested for violating the Chief Health Officer’s Directive.
Carano reacted to the arrest stating, “If they can arrest you or not wearing a mask & walking outside without permission, they can make up any reason to arrest you.”
“How do these police officers live with implementing tyrannical rule over the people they have vowed to protect. They know it’s wrong. #FreeAustralia,” she added.

Carano also cancelled one of her upcoming films over Hollywood’s COVID-19 vaccine and mask mandates.
She explained the decision, “After we announced our first project this summer, the Hollywood unions started debating vaccine mandates for cast and crew, and I wasn’t into that.”
“I don’t believe anybody gets to make your medical choices for you, and I’m not willing to force masks and vaccines on anyone else,” she added.
While Carano has spoke out against COVID-19 restrictions, it’s pretty clear based off the statement from the Disney spokesman that her views on COVID-19 restrictions had nothing to do with her firing.
On top of that her social media post that directly led to her firing makes no mention of COVID-19.
What do you make of Twitter’s false framing of Carano’s firing?
