Eric July: People Who Eat Up Hollywood’s Nostalgia Bait Are “Part Of The Problem”

YouTuber Eric July recently declared that people who eat up Hollywood’s nostalgia bait like the most recent episode of The Book of Boba Fett are “part of the problem.”

July’s comments came in a recent video on his YouTube channel titled “More franchises resort to nostalgia bait for a quick boost.”

On Twitter, he shared the video stating, “A lot of y’all clearly have an addiction, and Disney, Marvel, Sony, and Lucasfilm all know that and know you’ll come running anytime they jangle the keys of nostalgia bait. You prove them right when you support them. Check out the full video now LIVE on YouTube!”

In the video, he explores the idea stating, “We show something that was part of this franchise that will give them the member berries that they consider what used to be the good old days. And if you eat that s*** up you are part of the problem, man.”

“Now, sometimes it’s just a flat-out bait and switch. Not always, but sometimes it’s a flat-out bait and switch. It’s like here’s the nostalgia, here’s the thing that really got you reeled in and then they switch on. We’ve seen that happen a couple of times with some of these franchises. This isn’t even exclusive to Marvel, DC, or Star Wars. But it’s the same thing,” he continued.

July then opined, “This is what I’ve been trying to convince people of. You can’t operate as if these guys are owed the benefit of the doubt . I don’t personally think they are. I think they’ve made their goals and motives abundantly clear, especially with what happened to Gina Carano.”

“There’s an acceptable line of thinking, where you can have publicly, but if you are a raging authoritarian leftist — Pedro Pascal — basically all these Disney actors and actresses like all these people actually. They have the same positions. They can have those publicly. You have something to the contrary, they say, ‘You getting the f*** up out of here,'” he declared.

Gina Carano is Cara Dune in THE MANDALORIAN, season two, exclusively on Disney+.

“They don’t want to be associated — you see they slap Whoopi Goldberg on the wrist. They don’t like you. You’re not a leftist, at least authoritarian leftist, they don’t like you. ‘Get out,'” July stated.

He continued, “They’ve told you. Now, I know, for example, with Marvel, Kevin Feige, Victoria Alonso say, ‘We don’t give a s*** about source material. We are focusing on diversity and representation, and other buzz terms that has nothing to do with giving good accurate depictions of characters that have been developed for 30 years plus.'”

“See, they don’t care about that. ‘Cause that’s not what they are into. They are into other things,” July asserted.

“Now, what they will do every now and then is give something — they got everybody conditioned so bad, now, that people think, ‘Well because it’s not woke that means it’s good.’ I’ve said before, if anything one of the worst things to come out of this whole era is the lowered standards,” he argued.

He elaborated on that point, “Where now the standard is not whether something is good, makes sense, honest canon, doesn’t ignore the continuity aspects. That doesn’t even matter anymore. Now, it’s not woke. Therefore it it is now good.”

“That’s how they get you. So, they’ve conditioned people, which is a win for them. But as y’all Star Wars guys are seeing with Boba Fett as we saw with Marvel and what I talk about all the time is that nostalgia bait is used to then subsidize future projects,” July contended.

July then argued that by falling for the nostalgia bait, you are funding future projects where they can express how much they hate you, “Marvel and Sony made a lot of f***ing money — though Sony made most of it, it’s not like Sony is actually the beacon of righteousness either, Hell, some people would make the argument in the film sense they really kicked things off — 2015, 2016 with the whole f***ing wokebusters s**t. Wokebusters 2016.”

“Nonetheless, they made a lot of money off that and you’re on crack cocaine if you think that they ain’t using that to then subsidize future projects to tell you how much they hate you or to ruin f***ing brands, which is really what it is that they do for various reasons,” July stated.

Green Goblin from Columbia Pictures’ SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME.

He went on to say, “So, it’s difficult to get people to focus on the bigger picture here because you want to see the good in something or you’re so attached to something. I call it an addiction problem because that’s what it is. It’s an addiction problem. Y’all got a f***ing addiction problem with some of these brands to where you can’t get off of it. But that’s not helping.”

July then asserted, “I’m an advocate of the parallel economy. I’m an advocate of not putting money in these f***ers hands. What you bought is what you already bought. But at least going in the future you don’t have to go out of your way to subsidize. We ain’t talking about publicity. We are talking about specifically subsidizing them and going out of your way to reach into your pocket to do it. Not some roundabout way of doing it. I’m saying you are effectively reaching in your pocket and giving these companies money.”

“What you expect from the dog s**t is what you expect from the dog s**t. But you can’t fall for the member berries either. If you are in the interest of having liberty win that has to be your focus. And some of y’all need to be weaned off whatever the f*** your addiction is to these brands. They are dead. They are dead. And they will give you a slither of hope by nostalgia baiting you,” he declared.

July then defined what he means by nostalgia bait saying, “You get people that you think nostalgia bait means, ‘Oh well, it just means they did some switch, and it was like a bait and switch.’ I didn’t say nostalgia bait and switch, you crack head. I said nostalgia bait. So whether you think something’s good or decent out of that nostalgia bait doesn’t stop it from being bait. It’s what it is.

“It’s like tokenization. Tokenization is. Whether you liked it or not doesn’t make it not tokenization. Whether you liked it or not doesn’t mean it wasn’t nostalgia bait,” he expressed.

“But if we want to change the tide, we’ve got to build. Customers have to rewrite the focus to the creators that are good and trying to replace them in the eyes of everybody that’s out there. That’s the only way we are going to win,’ July declared.

“But how we won’t be able to win, or how, rather, we are guaranteeing a loss is by continuing give these guys the benefit of the doubt even though they have exposed their game plan to you,” he concluded.

July would elaborate more on Twitter writing, “The authoritarian Left successfully obtained control of most entertainment brands that are seen as legitimate. I’ve discussed many times how we got there, but let’s talk about the NOW.”

He continued, “They’ve made it very clear that they despise you. They find your views abhorrent and they do not hide this. Regardless of how we got here, at what point do you become part of the issue if you still give them the benefit of the doubt, despite knowing this?”

“They find non-leftists views so abhorrent that you will be made an enemy of and removed if they find out you’re among them (see: Gina Carano). This is how you know they are in control because there is no consequence to publicly taking the position of the Authoritarian left,” July detailed.

He added, “They benefit from the approach of “I don’t care about their politics” that so many non-leftists take. They won’t ever reciprocate such an idea because they absolutely care about yours and they hate your guts. The difference is they don’t fund/support us.”

Basically this “I don’t care” mentality is what got you in this mess with no cultural imprint. It’s a failed strategy and you need to understand the cultural ramifications. At this point, it’s akin to a sad puppy dog continuing to go back to his abusive owner,” he concluded.

July would also state, “Crack smokers that talk as if I MUST consume a product are attempting to project their addiction problem onto me. Especially when they use terminology like ‘deprive’ when I express I’m not interested in seeing something marvel, dc etc related.”

He added, “‘You can never just enjoy something’ is a coping mechanism for the addicted consumer. He’s attempting to rationalize with his addiction by suggesting something is then wrong with the person that isn’t addicted.”

July is not alone in expressing this opinion. Cyberfrog creator and former DC Comics artist Ethan Van Sciver has also expressed a similar opinion.

Van Sciver tweeted, “My point is this: SJWs don’t debate us. In fact, they mock the idea of debating us. They just act decisively and effectively in changing the culture. They shut us out and f**k things up. Hey guess what? It works.”

He then added, “Let’s shut them out, and build something new.”

Deus Vult creator Jon Del Arroz reacted to July’s comments wholeheartedly agreeing that people have an addiction.

Del Arroz said, “If you don’t call out trouble, if you don’t call out bad behavior that is happening in people — and definitely going and buying product, getting excited for next product, and buying more product from ‘muh brand’ is an addiction just like anything else.”

Del Arroz would add, “It’s very weird how people try to categorize this is the ‘good leftist’ versus this is the ‘bad leftist.’ They always try this, ‘Well maybe if we reach across the aisle this time, they’ll respect us as consumers.’ No, they won’t because you are a consumer. You’ll consume. They know this.”

“They’re never out for you, for your family, they’re, in fact, trying to subvert and erode your family every single time. Sometimes they do it subtly. Sometimes they do it not so subtly,” he added.

The Deus Vult creator would then point to Spider-Man: No Way Home, “Another example is the recent Spider-Man films. Everybody talks about it as if, ‘There’s no SJW content in that. I love that. I applaud that movie.’ They straight up replaced Mary Jane with like this mixed race blackish lady whatever. What are you talking about? They got rid of the redhead just like they do every single time.

He further detailed, “It’s all about white hatred in Hollywood. And it’s about a self-guilt they have, but that’s a different story. Everything is like that. They have lots of rants about like, ‘I wish there was a black Spider-Man’ in those movies. They have lots of rants — I think there is one where Mary Jane in it, I don’t remember from the first one, goes off about how, ‘Washington Monument was built by slaves and I’m not gonna go there.'”

“They put all these messages in the movies. Just because it’s not a trans black lesbian doesn’t mean it’s not SJW. It very much is. It’s very much meant to subvert America. It’s very much meant to make you hate yourselves and you hate your own children and applaud and put these black people on pedestals. That’s the entire point, every single time. So don’t fall for it,” he argued.

Tom Holland, Zendaya and Jacob Batalon in Columbia Pictures’ SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME.

Del Arroz would also contend, “This is what the conservatives often fall back on, ‘Well, if it’s a good story, I want to support that.’ Well, no. Just don’t support the ones that hate you. Support the good stories by the people that don’t hate you. I know it’s so hard.”

“Again, and this is exactly the type of cope that addiction goes through. You know when you’re an alcoholic, ‘Oh, well one drink doesn’t hurt. Two drinks doesn’t hurt. Yeah, I’ll just have one more now, it doesn’t hurt. Oh, it’s not like I’m belligerent, I’m just kind of tipsy.’ It’s the same mentality. Every single time,” Del Arroz declared.
