Amazon Appears To Have Mass Deleted Over 22,000 Comments From The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power Trailer

YouTuber Disparu reports that Prime Video appears to have deleted over 22,000 comments from their The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power trailer.

In a recent video upload, Disparu shares evidence that Prime Video deleted the comments from the trailer.
Shortly into the video, he shares a screenshot revealing the video had over 82,000 comments. He details in the video the screenshot was from about a week ago when the trailer had 300,000 less views than it did at the time he recorded this new video.

He then shares a look at what the total comments look like as of his recording the video. It’s no longer above 82,000 instead the total comments now sit at 59,986.

As of writing this article, the total comments are 60,791.

Disparu notes that while the difference between 82,604 and 59,986 is above 22,000, it’s highly likely that Prime Video deleted even more comments than that.
He explains, “New comments also came in. So, we’ve lost 22,000 plus an entire week’s worth of comments.”

Disparu goes on to speculate that Prime Video specifically targeted comments paraphrasing a line that Frodo tells Sam in The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.
Frodo says, “The Shadow that bred them can only mock, it cannot make: not real new things of its own. I don’t think it gave life to the orcs, it only ruined them and twisted them; and if they are to live at all, they have to live like other living creatures.”
Numerous individuals would respond to the trailer writing, “Evil is not able to create anything new, it can only distort and destroy what has been invented or made by the forces of good.” This line would not just been seen in English, but dozens of languages.

While showing comments such as those seen above, Disparu speculated, “As you can see on the previous video if I scroll through all the comments are uniformed and they all look very similar because they’re all sending the same message. It’s all repeating the same thing.”
“The strength of that message was that everyone was unified using the same voice to say the same message and there was nothing for them to grasp onto. That was a solid clear wall which all of their normal attacks and just accusing people of -ists and -phobes and everything, none of them had anything to grasp onto because it was a comment more about the production itself and all the journalists which tried to attack those people failed,” he continued.
“It wasn’t a good look for them and their narrative fell apart which is why all of them have been deleted,” he asserts while scrolling through the comments section of the trailer.

Later in the video opines that this mass deletion of comments was done insidiously.
He explained, “Now there’s been no news for a couple of weeks, there was no reason to go back [to the trailer], everything had died down, the videos had gone away, it was safe. And then the purge happened.”
“This is something they’ve done over a few days when they thought no one was paying attention anymore. That to me implies it was deliberate. They’re like, ‘No, we can’t do this because if we delete it now more people will make videos on it. This will get noticed even more. So what we’ll do, we’ll wait for it to die down and then when no one will notice that’s when we remove them,'” he said.

A little bit later on in the video he further explained why its so insidious, “The fact that they had to wait because they were so scared of people noticing means that they noticed. They knew they lost and they still couldn’t leave it up. Their own arrogance, their own egos couldn’t have those comments up.”
“Because what’s going to happen now. Well, the next thing to be released may not be a trailer,” he elaborated. “It may just be more news and then they think, ‘Well, people are going to come back and watch this trailer and we can’t have a load of new people, which are just seeing it for the first time come to this trailer and scroll down because they will see that one unified message and they’ll get curious. They’ll look it up and they’ll find out the truth.'”
“That what it’s for. To dissemble. To try and make it appear different. To camouflage everything. Because the comments are bad, but if you’re just scrolling through, you’ll just think it’s some people that didn’t like it, but when you see one message repeated 22,000 times in a row, it’s going to make you look at why,” he asserts.
