DC Comics Hypes Return of Mark Waid Who Is Back to Write Superman And Batman In New World’s Finest Team-Up

Mark Waid is back at DC Comics after a decade-and-a-half absence to write the character he has always wanted to, Superman, while also revisiting the Dark Knight.

Yes, Batman is part of the adventures as well in Waid’s relaunch of a noted DC brand that commonly brought the Man of Steel and his Justice League compatriot together – World’s Finest.
They join forces yet again, starting in Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #1 by Waid, artist Dan Mora, and Tamra Bonvillain, with the added help of the Doom Patrol to deal with the fallout from a chemical attack by Metallo.

DC hyped up the book and Waid’s return in a glowing retrospective of his career that started in the 80s around the time Crisis on Infinite Earths unfolded.
Highlights of his tenure that ended in 2008 include Kingdom Come, Gotham by Gaslight, time spent writing Wally West’s ascension to the mantle of The Flash, and a period as the guiding hand of the Legion of Super-Heroes.
Other than in Kingdom Come, Waid got to pen a 12-issue Superman story when he retold Clark Kent’s origin in 2003’s Birthright. Beyond that, he’s never steered the ship of a canonical ongoing series.

Speculation about Waid’s return has been buzzing since late 2020 when it was reported his foot was in the door at DC Comics again as a contributor – at least nominally – to Dark Nights: Death Metal: The Last Stories Of The DC Universe #1.
Taking an extra year and a half, he is back officially at an interesting time. The company is in decline and anyone Waid would have an issue with, such as Bob Harras and Dan DiDio, has been purged from the ranks.
