Brie Larson Joins Cast Of Fast & Furious 10 After Pleading To Join The Franchise

Last Saturday night on social media, Fast and the Furious franchise star Vin Diesel announced that Captain Marvel’s Brie Larson has been tapped to join the cast of the series’ 10th entry, Fast10.
Diesel, who also serves as a producer for the franchise, welcomed Larson to the film’s ever-growing cast – which already includes Jason Momoa, Charlize Theron, and Daniela Melchior – in an April 9th post to his Instagram.

“Yeah yeah yeah… you see this angel over my shoulder cracking me up, you say to yourself ‘That’s Captain Marvel,’” wrote Diesel. “Clearly, there is love and laughter in this image. What you don’t see, however, is the character you will be introduced to in ‘Fast 10.’”
“You have no idea how timeless and amazing she will be in our mythology,” he added. “Beyond her beauty, her intellect… her Oscar, haha is this profound soul who will add something you might not have expected but yearned for. Welcome to the FAMILY Brie.”

Earlier this year, Larson expressed her desire to star in the franchise, asserting during an interview with Uproxx. “Please, please tell everybody I would, of course, want to be in a Fast & Furious movie.”
“I’m obsessed,” she added.” I love them. I think they’re so good. They’re so fun. And they’ve made me appreciate cars. And it’s something that should be appreciated. They’re incredible. So of course, please.”

Larson has become a divisive topic in the world of entertainment over the last few years, with even the mere mention of her name provoking a strong reaction from both her supporters and detractors, with many in the latter category having taken issue with her past comments regarding film criticism of movies stating that the industry is too male and too white.
In 2018, while defending the critical flop “A Wrinkle In Time” Larson stated: “I don’t need a 40-year-old white dude to tell me what didn’t work about ‘A Wrinkle in Time. It wasn’t made for him. I want to know what it meant to women of color, biracial women, to teen women of color.”

In 2019, Diesel revealed that an all-female Fast & Furious movie was in development. With Larson’s casting in Fast10, it will be interesting to see if she plays into those plans.
Interestingly, that same year, the media backlash over negative fan reviews of Captain Marvel led movie review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes to make unprecedented changes to the site’s audience scoring system by announcing that they would “no longer show the ‘Want to See’ percentage score for a movie during its pre-release period.”

Beginning in 2001, the Fast & Furious franchise has produced 10 movies and grossed over $6.6 Billion dollars worldwide, with last year’s F9 pulling in $726 million worldwide even after John Cena was brought in as a replacement for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s star power amid the ongoing public feud between the latter actor and Diesel.
After starring in the franchise spin-off movie Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, which itself grossed $760 Million worldwide, Johnson stated that he would not be returning to the franchise and slammed Diesel for engaging in “manipulation” regarding the public perception of his exit from the franchise.

As of writing, plot details regarding Fast & Furious 10 are unknown, but it is expected that Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Michelle Rodriguez, and Sung Kang will all return to reprise their roles.
The Fast & Furious franchise is currently expected to wrap up with two final movies directed by Justin Lin.

Fast & Furious 10 is currently scheduled to be released by Universal Pictures on May 19th, 2023.
