Along with this first teaser trailer, Marvel Studios released a brand new synopsis for the film.

It begins, “The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods.”

“To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor,” it continues.

The synopsis concludes, “Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.”

Actress Tessa Thompson previously indicated the film would further explore her character’s sexuality and personal relationships and invest in love stories.

She was asked by TheWrap in January, “Speaking of Valkyrie, she was the MCU’s first openly LGBTQ character. Is that exciting?”

Thompson replied, “It’s totally exciting. We talk so much about representation and obviously, in terms of the LGBTQIA community, there’s still so much work to be done.”

She continued, “But if you look at the comics in the canon, there are so many queer characters! It’s hard because Taika (Waititi, who directed both of Thompson’s ‘Thor’ films) and I would’ve even liked to go further, but in the context of the movies, there’s only so much we can do.”

“Unfortunately, there’s not a lot of time invested in love stories in Marvel movies in general. I think that will be a little different on the new ‘Thor,’ which is exciting,” she stated.

She concluded, “And getting to play a character that historically is not written for somebody that looks like me, all of that felt exciting.”
