This new rumor comes from TheDisInsider during a fan casting segment of Qui-Gon Jinn during the 85th episode of The DisInsider Show.

While one of the show’s hosts, Skyler Shuler,  suggests Keanu Reeves to play Qui-Gon Jinn, the show’s co-founder Derek Cornell suggests he would be better suited to play Darth Revan.

Cornell then says, “Which I hear, they’re gonna bring in a lot of these legends, Darth Bane, Darth Nihilus, Darth Malak, Darth Revan, all in Star Wars: Acolyte. So we’ll see. Darth Plagueis. Darth Plagueis.”

Darth Revan, Malak, and Nihilus were previously featured in concept art for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker as part of the Sith trappings on Exegol.

The official Industrial Light and Magic website shared the concept art along with commentary back in December 2020 albeit the page featuring the art work has now been taken down.

Nevertheless, archives of the original page still exist and you can see the Dark Lords of the Sith at the bottom of the right most image below.

A previous rumor in March 2019 indicated that Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, who had previously been tapped to produce a number of Star Wars films and have subsequently parted ways with the company, were expected to have their movies set in the Old Republic.

Star Wars News Net reported, “It is not the Rian Johnson trilogy, it is the Game of Thrones guys’ first movie, and it is set during the Old Republic, as Disney wants to open up the Star Wars timeline and appeal to a more ‘Game of Thrones’ style audience.”

Their source also detailed, “So the timeline is hundreds of years prior to the Skywalkers, so think almost Star Wars meets Lord of the Rings.”

The Acolyte series is not set in the Old Republic, but rather at the very tail end of Lucasfilm’s The High Republic, a period of time that is set 200 years before the events of The Phantom Menace.

Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy revealed during the Disney Investor Day 2020 presentation, “The Acolyte is a mystery thriller that will take us into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging Dark Side powers in the final days of the High Republic era.”
