Bandai Namco’s next mainline entry into the grandfather-of-all-mecha franchises, Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury, recently unveiled a bevy of new information for excited fans including the series’ first synopsis, an overview of its principal cast of characters, and – perhaps most excitingly – its official release date.

This tidal wave of new info made its way to public eyes on June 17th, courtesy of a massive update to the series’ official webpage.

Beginning with the synopsis, Bandai Namco has revealed that the series will apparently take place in the 122th year of the brand new A.S. (Ad Stella) timeline, a time wherein “a multitude of corporations have entered space and built a huge economic system.”

Noting that the story begins when “a lone girl from the remote planet Mercury transfers to the Asticassia School of Technology, run by the Beneritt Group which dominates the mobile suit industry,” the production team then introduced the girl as series’ redheaded main protagonist, Suletta Mercury, who “With a scarlet light burning in her pure heart, walks step by step through a new world

The synopsis also revealed the name of the series’ redheaded main protagonist, introducing her as Suletta Mercury, who

As expanded upon by her official bio, the Suletta is “a second-year student in the piloting department, who transferred to the school from Mercury.”

Described as “Timid and somewhat [lacking in] communication skills,” Suletta will pilot the previously revealed and main-character-color-scheme-bearing Gundam Aerial.

Alongside Suletta, Bandai Namco also introduced a number of  her Asticassia School classmates.

First up is Marine Rembran, “an attractive and academically distinguished second-year student in the management strategy department,” who is “the only daughter of Delling Rembran, the president of the Beneritt Group and chairman of the school’s board.”

Unsurprisingly, given this pressure, Marine “has a strong rebellious feeling towards her father.”

Notably, as she is in the management strategy department rather than the piloting department, Marine is the only one of the five revealed characters to not have her own signature Mobile Suit.

Then there’s Guel Jetruk, “An heir to Jeturk Heavy Machinery, one of the group’s three branches, and a third-year student in the piloting department.”

Though he holds “a rough temperament and is quick to anger,” the pink-haired youth is also known as “the ace pilot of Jeturk House,” a moniker and reputation which has given him “absolute confidence in his own skills.”

In service of his role, Guel pilots the beetle-themed ‘Guel’s Dilanza’ – a specification which indicates his mobile suit may have undergone a high-degree of customization.

Next up is Elan Ceres, “the top pilot backed by Peil Technologies, one of the group’s three branches.”

“A third-year student in the piloting department, Elan is a taciturn and solitary person, who doesn’t open his heart to anyone in school,” writes Bandai Namco. “He has an interest to Suletta.”

Elan is also the pilot of the sleek, rifle-wielding Gundam Pharact.

Rounding out these initial reveals is Shaddiq Zenelli, “An adopted child of the CEO of Grassley Defense Systems, one of the group’s three branches” and “a third-year student in the piloting department who leads Grassley House.”

A “smooth-talking ladies’ man with a carefree manner,” Shaddiq, though still a student, “has shown his skill in business too, [as] he is a candidate for next generation executive.”

Like his fellow ace pilots Guel and Elan, Shaddiq sits behind the controls of his own unique Mobile Suit, in this case the appropriately regal Michaelis.

Finally, Bandai Namco confirmed that the series will begin airing in Japan on Sunday, October 2nd.

While no specifics were given, the company also confirmed that they have “a simulcast planned for outside of Japan.”

Further, on July 14th, Bandai Namco will hold a preview screening of The Witch From Mercury’s foreword episode, aptly named PROLOGUE, at each of the Gundam Factory locations in Yokohama, Odaiba, Fukuoka, and Shanghai – otherwise known as the homes of the life-size RX-78, Unicorn, RX-93ffv, and Freedom Gundam statues, respectively.
