10 ‘What If’ Questions For Season Two

Love it or hate it, there’s no denying that What If…? is a great premise for an MCU animated show. The first season saw a bunch of different scenarios all culminate in a story with the fate of the multiverse at risk.

And with season 2 confirmed, the obvious question of what new universes will be shown next is at the forefront of fans’ minds. A lot has happened since the first season, so it’s important to incorporate those new characters and storylines into the fold as well.

10) What If Dormammu Won?

A very big and easy ‘what if’ question to ask has to do with heroes losing grand battles with huge stakes. In the first season, it was contemplated what Ultron would do if he merged with Vision’s body.

Another equally terrifying thought is if Doctor Strange failed to repel Dormammu and his dark dimension from taking over ours. After the Doctor Strange sequel shattered the concept of the multiverse and TVA had been brought into the MCU, it’ll be very curious to see if those two concepts would have anything to do with Dormammu’s takeover of the world.

9) What If The Eternals Helped Fight Thanos?

A big question that was asked on release of the Eternals was what they were doing throughout the entire MCU thus far. They took a very steadfast approach about not interfering, even when Thanos threatened the entire universe. But what if they did intervene?

Seeing the Eternals battle against Thanos with the Infinity Gauntlet would be quite a spectacle. But even more interesting is what part Thanos plays in the history of the Eternals, and how far his story could go.

8) What If Loki Became Moon Knight?

A great concept for season 1 was when they merged two different characters. They did this with Black Panther and Star-Lord. Another interesting mashup would be if Loki became the newest Moon Knight instead of Marc Spector.

The idea is that Loki had escaped in Endgame only to be deemed a variant by the TVA. But instead of being captured by them, what if he was in Egypt and sought shelter in Konshu’s Temple? Loki would have been fearful of the TVAs power and submitted to Konshu in that moment, creating a very powerful being in the process.

7) What If Harry Osborn Came To The MCU?

It was undeniably amazing seeing all the different Spider-Man characters converge in No Way Home, but there were some notable absences, the biggest of which was Harry Osborn.

Another interesting thing about Harry is that he’s the only villain to face similar arcs in two different Spider-Man franchises. Seeing these two versions not only face off against Spider-Man, but also each other would be very cool, and an opportunity that shouldn’t be missed.

6) What If Bucky Became Captain America?

Another episode with an interesting premise could involve reversing the outcome of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier to have Bucky take over as Captain America. After all, he did take over as Cap momentarily in the comics.

The question wouldn’t even have to diverge that much from the elements of the show. It would simply have Bucky pick up the shield after Falcon gave it up. It’s not that big of a stretch, because Bucky obviously wasn’t happy with Sam’s decision in the first place.

5) What If Kate Bishop Became A Black Widow?

Another cool mashup would be seeing another young character become a Black Widow like the ones seen in the movie. A great choice would be Ms. Marvel, but she’s still a little too young to fit the particular timeline needed for this episode.

Instead, Kate Bishop would be a much better choice. After all, she was already training to be a superhero from a very young age. She could be lured into the Black Widow program through lies and dreams of becoming a hero. The story and plot would pretty much flow from there as she interacted with Yelena to break free.

4) What If Scarlet Witch Stole America’s Power?

An easy villain scenario is if Scarlet Witch was successful in stealing America’s power in Multiverse of Madness. It also wouldn’t be that difficult to imagine, considering it was the latest major installment in the MCU.

Wanda in the film was adamant about the fact that she would be peaceful after she got what she wanted, but fans know that the Darkhold would corrupt her and wouldn’t let her go. With a whole multiverse at her disposal, who knows what kind of trouble the Scarlet Witch could get in?

3) What If Star Lord Joined Ego?

One of the big moments in superhero movies is when they are given the chance to join the villain. An equally big ‘what if’ could involve seeing the hero actually give in, which would create an interesting timeline all by itself.

As far as stakes are concerned, there’s probably no bigger moment than when Star-Lord rejected his father Ego, who was primed to take over the entire universe. The thought of Ego actually succeeding would be terrifying, but seeing Star-Lord by his side would also be a very grim universe to live.

2) What If Captain America Used The Infinity Stones?

A good ‘what if’ episode is simply swapping out one character for another in a given circumstance. One of the biggest moments in the first 10 years of the MCU was when Iron Man sacrificed himself at the end of Endgame.

However, what if somebody else took his place? The possibilities are endless. It could be Hulk, Spider-Man, or even Black Panther, but perhaps the choice with the biggest ramifications is Captain America. The thought of America’s symbol sacrificing himself for the sake of the world would be a complete one-eighty from seeing a wimpy Steve Rogers jump on the grenade in his first film.

1) What If Shang-Chi Stayed With His Father?

Similar to how Star-Lord would side with his father Ego, it would also be terrible if Shang-Chi went through with his father’s assassination mission and became a loyal son to the Mandarin.

The thought of an evil Shang-Chi is pretty scary. He was an unbelievable fighter, and if he had stayed with his father he would have had unbelievable ambition as well. There’s no doubt he would seek the powerful rings for himself, possibly trigging a civil war within the Ten Rings organization.
