Marvel Comics Artist Mike Deodato Jr. Shares Own Nude Photo To Slam How Namor “Looks In Worse Shape” Than Himself In ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’

In what may be the most unique form of criticism ever leveled towards the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Comics artist Mike Deodato Jr. recently shared his own nude photograph to express his disappointment in the fact that Tenoch Huerta’s depiction of Namor the Submariner in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever “looks in worse shape than the 60-years old artist who drew him”.

Deodato Jr., whose Marvel Comics portfolio includes notable runs on such titles as the Amazing Spider-Man, New Avengers Vol. 2, and the Dark Reign era of the Thunderbolts, revealed his bare opinion on the Atlantean King’s lacking live-action physique in a now-deleted post made to his personal Instagram on August 30th.

Therein, believing the MCU’s version of the character to be woefully out of shape, Deodato Jr. emphasized his opinion by cheekily sharing a side-by-side comparison between a shot of Huerta’s Namor walking out of the water onto Wakanda’s shores and a nude photo of his own slightly more defined defined backside.
“You can tell somebody screwed things up when a character from a movie looks in worse shape than the 60-years-old artist who drew him,” Deodato Jr. wrote atop the image. In the image’s Instagram caption, the artist added, “Pencil lifting beats swimming anytime.”

Deodato Jr. is not the only veteran comic book creator to have taken public issue with Namor’s upcoming MCU debut as long-time Batman handler and Bane creator Graham Nolan likewise publicly expressed how he found himself unimpressed with the character’s live-action design – albeit in a less openly naked fashion.
Taking to Twitter on July 3rd, Nolan criticized the design for its changing Namor’s mutant-slash-Atlantean background to that of an Aztec.
“Namor, whose father was Scottish-American (MacKenzie) and mother who was a blue-skinned Atlantean is now, what? Aztec?” questioned Nolan, before sarcastically appraising, “creativity by box-checking for the win.”
