Billy Eichner Begs MTV Audience To Watch Gay Rom-Com During Monkeypox Outbreak

It has been a rough year at the domestic box offices as Hollywood hasn’t given moviegoers much reason to go to movie theaters outside of Top Gun: Maverick. However, Billy Eichner is hoping that his R-rated gay romantic comedy will be a box office hit.

The actor claims that his upcoming film Bros is a film that is 100 years in the making, as it is “the first gay rom-com ever made by a major studio.” Eichner hit the stage at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards to promote the film, while pleading to audiences to watch the movie.
“Bros is making history as the first gay rom-com ever made by a major studio, and the first where every role is played by an openly LGBTQ actor.” Eichner pitched to the crowd as a reason to spend money on the film.

Eichner then continued his rant by attacking United States Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas for the recent ruling to repeal Roe v Wade, and the overreaching federal mandate on the issue of abortion.

“And I need you all there in theaters on September 30th, because we need to show all the homophobes like Clarence Thomas, and all the homophobes on the Supreme Court, that we want gay love stories, and we support LGBTQ people and we are not letting them drag us back into the last century.” he stated.
“Because they are in the past, and Bros is the future. Are you with me, VMAs?” Eichner questioned.

Thomas was among the five justices who voted to overrule the 1973 Roe v Wade decision, holding in the Dobbs case that the Constitution does not include a right to abortion, and returning the issue of abortion laws and regulations to state legislatures. Thomas then made the case to end the “substantive due process,” which is the contradictory and nonsensical doctrine that Roe v Wade and other decisions were based on. Thomas says that they should be based on other provisions of the Constitution, and not on the “substantive due process” doctrine itself.
“For that reason, in future cases, we should reconsider all of this Court’s substantive due process precedents, including Griswold [contraception], Lawrence [sodomy laws], and Obergefell [gay marriage]. Because any substantive due process decision is “demonstrably erroneous,” we have a duty to “correct the error” established in those precedents.” Thomas stated.

He continues: “After overruling these demonstrably erroneous decisions, the question would remain whether other constitutional provisions guarantee the myriad rights that our substantive due process cases have generated. For example, we could consider whether any of the rights announced in this Court’s substantive due process cases are “privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States” protected by the Fourteenth Amendment.”
The upcoming film Bros follows the character of Bobby Leiber, played by Eichner, who is a middle-aged gay podcaster hired by a pair of movie producers to write a script for a gay-centric romance. The film touts how every role is played by an openly LGBTQ actor. Eichner wants the film to succeed so that Hollywood will greenlight more LGBTQ love stories in the future.

“I feel a responsibility for it to do well. I’ve worked so hard on it, I care so much about it, and I want it to do well for the sake of the LGBTQ stories getting greenlit. So there’s a burden I feel, much as I want to sit here and just talk about how funny the movie is.”
Eichner went on to say that the gay sex scenes in the film would be eye-opening for certain audiences who not used to romance in LGBTQ circles. “There’s part of me that realized some of this would be eye-opening for certain people in the audience, and I loved that too. I was like, ‘Great! Let’s surprise people. Let’s shock them.’ Sacha Baron Cohen doesn’t worry about that, why should I?”

Eichner’s sex comedy includes scenes of his character sending a picture of his rear-end to a date, only to be rejected as a scene that looks like a tender kiss between the two men actually being one of them receiving oral sex at a gay orgy. The red band trailer was released before the worldwide outbreak of monkeypox, which is a disease that is primarily affecting homosexual men who engage in sexual activity with multiple partners in a short period of time.
The Universal Pictures-backed film will be released worldwide on Sept. 30th.
