Multiple sources, such as @SynthPotato and @ScriptLeaksR6, shared the alleged images from the Ubisoft Store; one of which appearing to be art for a piece of DLC for Assassin’s Creed Mirage.

The image features a white hooded assassin wielding the series’ iconic hidden blade in one hand and a scimitar in the other. The Arabic or Middle-Eastern setting is driven home as the DLC seems to be titled The Forty Thieves Quest.

While @SynthPotato was hit with a DMCA strike, Ubisoft didn’t seem to shy away from the leak. Instead, developer opted to announce the leaked game ahead of the revealed they had originally planned.

Earlier this year, Bloomberg reported that — according to their sources — Ubisoft turned an expansion for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla into a stand-alone game to help fill their release schedule. It will reportedly star Basim Ibn Ishaq, a major character from Valhalla, who was born in the Abbasid Caliphate and grew up in Baghdad.

The outlet’s sources also stated the game was (in Bloomberg’s words) smaller in scope compared to recent titles in the series; it would be more focused on stealth rather than the large open-world games with RPG elements Ubisoft has previously delivered.

Bloomberg also reported the game — previously codenamed Rift — would launch in either 2022 or next year. The outlet would later report the game was delayed to Spring 2023 (May to June), as it had allegedly failed to meet development deadlines. The new Assassin’s Creed title is reportedly being developed by Ubisoft Bordeaux.

Relying on their own sources, Eurogamer later corroborated the claim the game would be set in Baghdad. In an interview with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla producer José Araiza, the video game outlet asked if fans would see more of Basim. “Yes, the answer is yes,” Araiza replied. “I’m not going to give you more details. But yes, you definitely will see more of Basim.”

Earlier rumors about Ubisoft’s upcoming games along with Bloomberg’s reports stated the next major title in the series after Mirage would be Assassin’s Creed Infinity in 2024 or 2025. The alleged title reportedly aims to be a live-service title featuring multiple time periods.
