Though you may have thought Jon Kent had already revealed his sexuality to the world, the ‘Son of Kal-El’ only introduced his parents to his boyfriend Jay Nakamura; coming out to them and nobody else. He takes the next step in the latest issue of his title by writer Tom Taylor.

In Superman: Son of Kal-El #15, Jonathan Kent shows the world officially that he is bisexual and dating a guy once the pair and a pack of Revolutionaries liberate the island of Gamorra. As soon as they overthrow the place’s evil dictator, and a thorn in the heroes’ side, Harry Bendix, Jay, and Jon celebrate with a smooch out in the open.

They first kissed in private at Jay’s Metropolis apartment in issue #5 but this month’s entry is the first time Jon’s orientation is on public display. Previously, he came out to his parents at the Kent Farm as noted, and the excited approval of Lois and Clark was made clear on a cover where they waved a rainbow flag at their son flying by.

Jon became friends with Jay when he saved him and his college classmates from a school shooter in issue #2. We soon learned as their relationship grew that Jay is a reporter for the underground news source “The Truth” which, railing against Bendix, exposed the plight and torture of Gamorran refugees.

Jay is one of those refugees and was bestowed powers by Bendix in twisted experiments. He began to use and understand those powers to fight alongside Jonathan under the code name Gossamer as a de facto sidekick.

Where their relationship is headed — or could be — was teased in the last issue when Jonathan presented Jay with a Legion flight ring the latter thought was an engagement ring. The young Superman stand-in gave him a suit too in preparation for the fight with Bendix, but the scene was essentially an awkward moment played for a laugh or two.

The duo might take the plunge one day. No one knows the plan except DC and Tom Taylor if there is one. Should they go as far as Jonathan and Jay walking the aisle, it might mean a bump in sales – might, for one issue.
