Actor Mike Colter recently addressed the possibility of reprising his role as Luke Cage during an interview promoting his upcoming action flick, Plane, alongside Gerard Butler.

Colter played Luke Cage in Marvel TV and Netflix’s Luke Cage series for two seasons beginning in September 2016. The series finale aired in June 2018. It was cancelled alongside other Marvel TV shows on Netflix including Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Punisher. The shows were canned amid The Walt Disney Company launching their rival streaming service, Disney+.

All the series have since moved from Netflix to Disney+.

Colter was asked by ComicBook.com if he was staying in Luke Cage shape in case he ever gets the call from Marvel to reprise the role.

Colter responded, “I just try and stay in reasonable shape just because. But I don’t think about the Luke Cage opportunity because it’s one of those things where it’s in the rear view mirror at this point.”

“And somehow I get a call — my dance card is kind of full — but I mean look, if I get a call, something happens, great. But I had a good time. And I’m happy, more than happy to let someone else take on that mantle or that role,” Colter continued.

He then concluded, “Fans, that character will live on for a long time. Fans are going to have that character in some way, shape, or form for the rest of their lives, and I’m just happy to have been a part of that for those guys.”

Colter’s comments come in the wake of Charlie Cox reprising his role as Matt Murdock aka Daredevil in both Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk: Attorney At Law. Vincent D’Onofrio also reprised his role as Kingpin in the Hawkeye series on Disney+.

Marvel Studios also announced plans for a new Daredevil series, Daredevil: Born Again, that is expected to debut on Disney+.

It’s unclear what plans Marvel Studios has for Luke Cage if they have any at all.

As mentioned above, Colter can next be seen in Plane alongside Gerard Butler. The official plot synopsis states, “In the white-knuckle action movie PLANE, pilot Brodie Torrance (Gerard Butler) saves his passengers from a lightning strike by making a risky landing on a war-torn island, only to find that surviving the landing was just the beginning. When most of the passengers are taken hostage by dangerous rebels, the only person Torrance can count on for help is Louis Gaspare (Mike Colter), an accused murderer who was being transported by the FBI. In order to rescue the passengers, Torrance will need Gaspare’s help, and will learn there’s more to him than meets the eye.”

The film arrives in theaters on January 13, 2023.
